REAL MySpace Advertising

So out of curiousity, I email MySpace for a price quote on advertising on MySpace.com. I thought it would be out of my price range, but it actually looks to be a pretty good idea if you have $2500 to throw into marketing/advertising.

    MySpace Stats:
    - 61 + million registered users with 21+ million unique visitors (media metrix July 05)
    - 2nd largest destination on the web, by page views
    - 50.2% male – 49.8% female
    - Primary Age Demo: 16-34
    - 1.4 million registered bands
    - 350,000 + band blogs
    - 220,000 + new registrants daily
    - 50,000 + groups including fashion, health, wellness & fitness, sports & rec, music, film, TV, etc
    - Major music enthusiastic destination where bands/artists like Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, the Black Eyed Peas and Billy Corgan debut albums and connect with fans
    - We reach more men online than ESPN
    - We reach more females online than iVillage
    - Snapshot of our user – Influencers, Trendsetters, Music & Film Buffs, and Gamers

MySpace CPM for Run of Site::
    468x60 - $1.45 (top banner)
    728x90 - $1.65 (large top banner)
    300x300 or 300x250 - $2.50 (medium box)
    430x600 - $2.25 (large box)
    120x600 - $1.85 (vertical banner)

Campaigns start at $2,500. Here is an example of how the pricing works. If you wanted to run an entry campaign size of $2,500 worth of medium box ads (300x300) you would get 1,000,000 impressions/views ($2,500/$2.50 x 1,000). We would look to spread out your delivery evenly across the time frame you have specified (i.e. 20 days). So for this example, you would get a little more than 50,000 impressions per day.

For the right business, this could be VERY worthwhile. :)

I dont think i would pay to advertise CPM on myspace if they had cpc i may. I know i use way over 10,000 pageviews a day with auto bots and with all the other people doing the same a ton of money is wasted on that alone. I never really see any ads on myspace that arent fastclick, cpx etc you would think there would be more private advertising going on.

Also, I have heard that most of myspace's audience is in the low teens or around that age. So if you are advertising something that you wish to sell then you may find it hard to sell something. A gaming site may do well though.

If that's true, I think that is changing rapidly. My target market is roughly college age and I've receive a GREAT response through my "free lingerie" profile, which is why I'm considering doing the paid advertising on MySpace. :)

I would even go out on a limb in saying that the majority of MySpace users are over 18.

ViciousSummer I think you should also sell sex dolls for the male audience. Men who stalk little girls on MySpace would then definately give you a lot of business. :D

Ummmm...yeah. No thanks. My business does well enough to not have to stoop to that level. Any how, back to advertising on MySpace...

CPM is a waste of money. I would go for a CPC campaign if they offered it.

I asked for a quote and got essentially the same answer. To be honest, the price of advertising on myspace is almost 5-10 times as much as running a premium Adwords campaign. Hopefully in the future, they will decrease their prices a bit. But I do know that they offer Google ads on their site. I am not too familiar with their setup, but perhaps it is possible to use the "advertise on this site" and get more for your money.

I think it depends. Just getting the name out there and being seen by 1 million people is well worth $2500 in terms of branding. When I launch my clothing line, I am DEFINATELY going to be utilizing this paid advertising on MySpace. :)

In my opinion, there is too much click fraud going on with Adwords. I havn't seen a decent enough ROI to continue with it. I like to fly below the radar and keep my competition guessing ;).

    Hmmm interesting stuff.

There is a girl in her mid twenties who has had over 27,000,000 page views in the last 2 years on her myspace profile.

It would be cool if you could buy ad space on specific profiles.

how about just paying that girl to personally recommend your site in her profile? surely that would cost less and be way more efficient!

I guess that may be a good site to advertise something like a clothes site then. I have a clothes site. I may look into myspace a little further.

I have signed up with them, but I can't really do much into 7 days has gone.

It would be awesome if you could target your ads somehow. Also, $2,500 is not that cheap to start with. If you don't get the answer you're after it's quite a hole in the pocket. Anyhow, good info.

I also don't think $2,500 is cheap. This is because alot of advertising needs testing. If it don't work then you loose alot of money. That's one good thing about Adwords is that you can slowly test different ways of using it without loosing to much money.

You can buy ad space on any profile just message the owner of the profile.
Do you mean www.myspace.com/tilatequila ? I even reckon she would charge more then myspace charge she has 968,639 friends and shes got pretty famous from her profile. It would be a great profile for ViciousSummer to advertise on though much more targetted then ROS cpm would be.

Wait 'till she gets in her 40s > it'll be much cheaper to advertise on her profile page then. :D
