Getting tossed around like a football

I'm just curious how often some of you see your rankings change. I'm not talking a huge change, but 7-10 spots (This is only happening in Google). I have been noticing my site is flip flopping between page 1-2 for some keyphrases, and 3-4 for others..I'm wondering what the heck is going on for it to go from #4 to #12 in less than 24 hours! Then, in another 12 hours, I will probably go from #12 back up to #4. Has anyone seen this kind of activity before? Is it a good sign? bad sign? I notice I am pretty much always in the same spot (IE: #4 or #12) but it just flip flops constantly :(

Wouldn't worry about it, this is common with Google lately. With changes to the algorithm or updates to data centers you'll see this kind of activity. Not to mention this might be only in the data center your viewing data from and be normal in the rest. Build more relevant quality backlinks to the web pages that keep jumping and use as anchor text the exact keyword phrase your trying to rank.

I've been experiencing the same thing with my websites, the rankings fluctuate wildly! Especially page 1 / page 2 rankings, it makes me wonder if Google puts sites on page 1 as a test first to see if the CTR is decent or not, before it stabilizes the link on page 1

Are there any strategies that you have been using lately that you care to share with us? What type of link building have you done?
