I have about 50 unused domains. I can get new IP addresses for them if it's really useful to have separate IPs. I know that it's a good thing to have a lot of unique IPs kicking out links to your sites, but I haven't had time to develop web sites... Suggestions for what to do with these domains? A lot are expiring soon, and I need to make a decision as to whether or not to keep them.
They aren't really sellable - mostly domains we bought up as ideas for web conferencing and 3d ultrasound sites before we settled on www.ovenbuns.com and www.agilelive.com. I was thinking more along the lines of a DMOZ mirror here and there, maybe a wikipedia mirror, etc. My ideas so far: CIA World Fact Book DMOZ Mirror Public Domain Books Wikipedia Mirror Really, I'm looking for stuff that is scriptable, and I can do a few value-add type things with, like adding weather info to sections in wikipedia having to do with geography, etc. to build my page index count. I don't want to be spammy though. Should I let these domains expire and grab new ones, or is it better to have domains that have been registered for a year or two already?
Nevets, Have these domains a history ? ie have they ever had content indexed by GYM ? Any old IBL assets ? I know you're not using them now, but how about historically ? no history - no IBLs. I have one machine in one data center, and another I plan on putting up soon in a different one. Getting IPs is pretty easy, (just need to put through a request) but no more than two unique C's.
Yeah, I'm not sure that you actually need distinct C class IP's. Perhaps just differing IP's will do the trick. I've noticed a couple of networks (groupings of sites like the chatabout network) where they even have up to 5 diff doms on the same IP. I think the C class IP scenario is more about linkage sites etc - not necessarily sites in general. To address your original question - I don't think there is any difference between domains you've held for a while, and new domains, but I do know that (at one stage) G was killing BL's (or the benefit thereof) whenever domain ownership details changed. Unless you have any particular reason to drop them and buy new ones, I wouldn't bother. If you've held them for a while, it might be easier to roll with them. Congrats BTW on your AS earnings.. but really it's zip compared to what you can achieve if you set your network of sites up correctly. You should prolly consider an easily deployed multi-site cms like Typo3 etc if you're hunting for a manageable framework. It's a touch complex, but (I hear) worth it in the long run. Cheers, JL
I think part at sedo works when you have great short domain name... But if you have long domain name,,You still have to promote them,, And I saw some people make money with parked domain programs and promote them... How much do you pay for your domain anyway??A lot?
I do Web design. I have only a handful of domains. I can add 2,000 domains to my hosting servers free of charge. If you can give me a list of some of the names you have, maybe we can create some businesses and share the ad revenue. You provide the domains and I provide the hosting and designs. Just an idea.
I also have a lot of domains and 10 domains have no sites and will be dropped. Now I'm developing a site and content and only than buy a domain name. I think domain name without a site and inbound links costs nothing so you should drop this names. You always can buy new domains.
I let most of them expire. Just didn't have the time to deal with them, and really they weren't that great. I kept a few of them, but it made more sense to spend the money on new, better thought out domain names.
I have a few unused domains at the moment that have some PR (3/4) This thread got me thinking that I should put these to some use. I'd like to put up some kind of scripted content to create 100's/1000's of differing pages. Does anyone have any good ideas or recommendations as to how I can make this work? Also are there any ideas as to other uses for this setup besides linking to my other sites or using Adwords?
