I am intending to buy an expired domain which has still retained a real(pr 3) pr.I will have to build new content on it.Will i lose the pr after I buy and develop it?

The PR 3 you are talking about is for the homepage and it's computed based on both internal and external links. You will definitely loose the internal links, but probably the external ones will be still in place.

So, most likely you will loose SOME of the PR.

I can't say exactly but based on my experience, if you develop content rapidly and if you can retain back links as it is than your PR will not expired.

Checkout the backlinks and try to see if they are permanent in nature.

Before purchase the domain, please check the backlinks of the site. Are those comes from authentic sites. If the backlinks are good, then you may not loose the PR. But at the same time you need to add unique content on your site and have to start SEO for your site..

    All the best...:)

Well from my experience in most of the cases your pr will be down to 1 or 2. But still if you can build some fresh new content and have some more backlinks then it may have its pr same ...even rise in pr may occur as well depending upon your effort ...

    Looking ahead.
    Cheers.

Try Getting the content to the site fast , and it would do the trick. You will retain some benefits of the PR.

You may well do, Google generally zeros PR and backlinks after a domain has dropped.

I'd start from sratch anyway becauseunless you intend to keep to the theme of the domain name your backlinks will be irrelevant. It depends upon what content you want to build on it.

If you're really worried about losing the PageRank, launch your site immediately following the next public toolbar PR update, then use the time between that update and the next one to build more links to make up for the loss of PageRank flowing from your home page to your internal pages.

if you develop that site i think it will only drop down the pr but not entirely loose its rankings.

You will most likely loose that pr3 and start off fresh, unless you build your links up before the next page rank update then you might still have a chance to have page rank close to it.
