    Hello all,

My website is running now over an year on. My competitors website is running now 5 months. I have a lot of related, quality one way links pointed to my website (according to Yahoo), but my competitor has only 2 backlinks according to Yahoo, but he is ranking 3 places higher than me? How is that possible (my on page optimalisation is better than him, I guess)???

I have investigated his website and there is no black hat technique at all, so is this luck or....he is using some techniques???

Did you check the link anchor of the backlinks and the quality of the sites that link to his and your website ?

You may have been penalized depending on how you obtained your backlinks. Google is penalizing a lot of sites for using paid links and being involved in link farms. Do it the right way.

I think your competitor might get more trust source rather your source.

I heard new sites get a boost at the beginning; then it drops to where it should be. That may be the case.

Maybe the Anchor Text that have been used on your backlinks aren't properly used. Do check them out.

No, all links I got are not nofollowed, they have the right anchor text defined by myself and it's containing the keyword, but my competitor is just ranking me out, i don't know how, but maybe because it is a new website.

PL120 - Really, if you need help we need to exacts such as:

    Exactly: What is your URL?
Exactly: What is your competitors URL?
Exactly: What is the search term?

If we don't have those all anyone here is doing is taking a random guess and random guesses won't help you. It could be anything without knowing those exacts.

Possible if those backlinks are from sites listed on first page of particular keywords.

Without seeing what your Web site is or knowing which search terms you're targeting, the best I can tell you to do (other than to provide that information) is to read the Search Engine Optimization FAQ by John Conde and Chris Beasley's comprehensive Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Guide, both of which are free. Hopefully one of them (or preferably both) will have the answers you seek.

He can have one PR10 backlink and you can have 10,000 PR 0 backlinks, and he wins.

Not necessarily. What if that PR 10 link has 500 links on the page? ;)

In a less competitive market on page SEO and fresh content are more important factors than links. We work in niche markets and see this all the time. So take a look at your competitor and analogize there source code and content. They are doing something on site that is more important then your links. Once you determine this and make changes things should change quickly.
