I gave you "Real" advice, if all you wanted to hear was from people who have also failed at doing contests, then fine, you got some of them answers.

If you just want to hear BS here you go mate: Contests never work. If you do it, you'll waste your time, All them companies that do them are total idiots, just burning money.

Would you waste your time doing anything for $50???

JeffC -- i dont know what you did wrong with that contest. It seems crazy. Sorry that didnt work for you. :(

Perry Rose -- im not saying any of my urls. :p

contests work -- checkout affilites offers where you promote contests such as a chance to win $250 worth of free donuts. Free handbags, and loads of other stuff. Theses contests work so well -- they are willing to pay affiliates $1.69 for every person to enter the contest.

A big part of contests is the marketing.

And you dont need millions, but you do need more then $50.

Get some people who know how to market to give it a go. Buy enough ipods to run a competition for a few months (somthing for joining your forum). Then try and get CJ, or Azoogle, or some other affiliate program to get people entering your competition. Offer each affiliate $1.25 for each new sign up on your forum.

Would you waste your time doing anything for $50? people spend time posting on forums for $0.09 and some people spend time writing articles for $2.00 so I guess there are people that spend time for little money  adding a referral link to your blog or site is not spending lots of time, so I think $50 for maybe one second of your time is actually quite a big amount.

Really its not that different to spending hours advertising yourself, your just offering someone else to do it for you to win some cash at the moment I could do with $50 as I have spent more than that on advertising, getting good quality content lol and so if I was a member of a forum I would join in.

Get your point though referral contests are not good but the main point to my post was on how to stop the contest not increase the winnings, if I had $250 to give away I would give it to a member or moderator that has worked hard on the forum, its not getting the members its more a case of keeping them active.

I seemed to have done well with the advice of End of Month rewards and small prizes though so in the long run this post has been fantastic, I would advise anyone to give it a go and learn by your mistakes.

I just love to read peoples advice, Especially when they do not offer a single thing to back up their suggestions. I wonder how many people that posted here even have a forum?

I tried contest and they were a failure.

People pay the lottery because they might win thousands / millions of dollars. A new website does not have those kind of resources,

Another suggestion is to hook up with someone that owns an online store. See if they will donate a random prize. You do the drawing and that store drop ships to the winner. Give the store some free advertising and everyone is happy.
