hey im just about to post a project on elance for the first time - nothing big just some internet research finding me some products.

Never having done it before im looking for some guidance on how to price it.. Obviously i want it done as cheap and well as possible but should I set a price or let people bid for it? and if so how much should i set it at for a bit of research?

P.S I posted the same thread last night on the general chat thread but no one replied so have posted it again here

probably best to let people bid for it, then you know what the job is worth

State your experience requirements carefully though - otherwise you'll just get nubes who'll do it for practically nothing but have no proven track record. So make sure you state that you're only seeking bids from people with "x" amount of proven experience and that you will be checking!

Look also at the profile of the bidders, how many projects they have done etc. And yeah let service providers bid for your project.

i'm just looking to get someone to carry out internet research - more specifically finding a bunch of free products on the web related to a relevent niche.

So I should try and pass it of as if i'm experienced so I dont get taken for a mug?

Any ball park figures for how much this should cost?

You already said you want as cheap as it only can be, you may get results which done with the same quality in order just to finish the job:)

does this represent a reasonable time period?
and I'm just going to leave it open for bidding

You can publish a post that talks about the product and invite your readers to rate it in someway, micropledge for example has built a crowdsourcing website through which visitors can pledge to the available projects on the website, the amount of pledges can tell the developer how much his project is worth of and whether it's satisfying for him to go for it or not, you can read this if you want to learn more about crowdsourcing: http://www.designinterval.com/19/how-to-build-a-crowdsourcing-website/
