Looking to start something...

I am away from university for the summer, and looking for a way to make a good income.
This forum has a lot of good ideas in it, but I can't think of anything that I could sell. I have a good, sturdy amount of knowledge in HTML, CSS, XHTML and PHP. What could I do with these skills?

    Cheers

You could go onto Elance.com and search for people that need someone with your skills. They put up a job posting like "i need a home page design" and then you submit a bid for the project.

That would be the ideal plan. Its always fun to be able to make your own site and to be able to say its yours- especially if it starts making money. Once you start making money, its usually all uphill from there. Plus, if you ever run into financial trouble, you can always sell the site for 12x monthly revenue (usually).

Coding is a good thing to do, and as long as you get some repeat customers you should be fine. Its never a garunteed thing though (well, a website isn't either, but I think its more garunteed than coding- IMO). But if you like to code, you could code yourself a website, and then code for other people as well.

Look in the BST section for work (short term) and design a website and continually work on it by adding content, building backlinks and creating an online community (long term)

Your best bet is to provide services to people.. have a look in the buy sell trade section on this forum, have a look for people looking for services that you can offer and drop them an email :)
