Well, the problem here is a link exchange when you give link with real PR and get link with fake PR (which will be dropped on next google update for expired domains). Do you see?

what lof of people on the BST forum do is to register an expired domain with PR, build a quick site, and then sell links on that site showing the existing PR. thats all good, but the only problem is that most of the backlinks the site has will probably not be there and there is a very good chance that the site will lose its PR on the next update. so the money you pay has a chance of being down to the drain

This trick is kinda hard to detect sometimes, most fell for it when sellers say they are desperate to sell it or set the auction period very short.

its not hard to detect whether the domains are expired or not. all you have to do is to check the domain with wayback machine and look for the previous archives. if the domain is expired, then it will have different archived copy than the one showing on the site

Some people can block wayback machine's bot by putting a robots.txt :)

You can never know that. You're not the authority and obviously you have no experience with expired domains.

people are trying to sell the expired domains which has no backlinks. when you buy a domain or link from a web site, it's better to check the who is info

well, one reason people buy expired domain is to avoid the google sandbox. but i dont know if google sandbox really exist now. i can build a site and a month later received a PR1.

Another question, let say i bought an expired domain with a certain PR value. Build a new site over it. how long must i wait before knowing which PR is legit for my site? after next PR update?

That is pretty clever if you ask me.

I don't exchange links but I will keep this in mind.
