Ok I need some honest opinions from everyone. What is the best blogging software in your view and why. I am looking at making a switch from Blogger.com as I want some more features, but not sure which one would be best. I have looked at WordPress and some others, but I am undecided yet. Could use your help.
I'll say go for Wordpress as it's 1. Free of cost 2. Has hundred's of free templates 3. Adsense and other's can be added very easily 4. Needs very little or no seo tweaking (Just in permalinks) 5. Easy to customize 6. You can PM me in case you have a problem (Free Support within my limits ) 7. Hundreds of free mods are available. But its all IMO.
Wordpress is one of the most user-friendly and search engine ready blogging software. My vote goes for WP.
I'm a recent conversion from Blogger (hosted on my own server) to Wordpress, NetCode. My only regret is that I didn't wait for the currrent release (version 2.02) - it's so much easier not to import your blog entries and comments. I've found that pretty much anything I used to do with blogger I can now do much more easily with WordPress.
Lots of links here, check them out. I'm sure you can find something. bloggershq.com/index.php?showtopic=1637
I host it on my server also. Seems to me blogger is to limited though. I was leaning towards WordPress also, but wanted to make sure before I switched it for sure. Is it pretty easy to import my posts from Blogger to WordPress with the new version? Or am I going to have to basically do it manually?
It's dead easy in the latest version (2.02). 1. install and set up WordPress on your server 2. go to the admin panel (wp-admin/ by default) 3. click on Import and you get this screen:
Thanks I am going to make my change tonight. Now the search for a better template and I am completely in business. Thank god there are tons of them available now.
I'm pretty sure Blogger has a feature that would allow you to put the blog content on your own domain name. That might be an option.
I was using that. I made the switch to Word Press and I will tell you it was well worth it. The plugins and the ease of use of the system is unbelievable. Also it offers way much more than blogger could ever offer with their system. I am working on my setup still, but I am very glad I made the change.
It sounds like Word Press is the people's choice. My webhost offers 4 blog programs pre-installed: b2evolution, Nucleus, pMachine Free, WordPress. From that selection, does anyone know a reason not to choose Word Press?
Why do you want to be different? I have mentioned enough reasons to keep yourself at bay from every blog software but wordpress.
Highly recommend it. You will love it. I do allready. I was reluctant until I did some checking. Well worth the time and effort.
I've used Moveable Type and it was a bit flakey. I moved over to WordPress and its worked great since. Very nice and clean layout. You can even get skins for it. I upgraded recently to the latest version of WP and it's worked great. But there is one problem. When I create articles some of them have HTML in them. The Rich Text window used for editing has a HTML button on it which is supposed to allow you to enter HTML. But I have had problems when entering HTML forms like PayPal forms or embedded HTML like videos from Google. But there may be some work around that I am just not aware of. Other than that WP is a really nice piece of blogging software.
I have not experienced that issue with it yet. I have embedded code and have had no issues. Let us know if you figure out what is wrong.
WordPress is probably the best way to go. You could just try it out and see how it works, and if you don't really like it, just take it down! Blogger is not as advanced as WordPress is.
