I've run 2 experiments with sig links, the last one i had here and in a couple of other forums totaling 18,000 posts all pointing to a brand new domain.

I done nothing else, no other links just signature links and the site went from PR N/A to PR0

    The domain was www.seoco.in

So if people think making 18,000 posts to get from PR N/A to PR0 is "The best way of Creating Strong Backlinks" then i'm lost for words. :)

Good tips, I'm sure many of webmasters apply these tips currently, joining sites and adding your link is really the best way of creating backlinks. :)

    Thanks, anyway.

You broke my heart. I was waiting for you to say PR6 at least! Well anyway, that puts this thread to bed... hopefully.

I'm sure the direct traffic from those 18,000 links can't be bad.

I just took a look at the stats, the highest traffic month was December with 90 so an average of 3 per day.

Also i forgot to mention, to give an idea of the power of the link i used "SEO Coin" as the signature anchor text, in the page Title, Description and Body. Searching for "SEO Coin" in quotes on Google had about 300 results if i recall and i didn't even make the front page.

After the Google link: update i had 9 threads show for the command, so it wasn't even strong enough to get me in the top 10 for a 300 result search phrase.

Maybe over time the PR of some of those threads will increase and you might get some more google juice? Surely that's possible if you've posted with your sig on the front page of hot topic threads.

SweetFunny: Have you run experiments with backlinks on forum pages WITH pagerank? I'm guessing 99.9% of the pages your sig is on in the test were PR N/A. Also was it only one forum on one domain? Or multiple forums?

    Good advice there Dan.

No substitute for providing quality content that compels its readers to find out more.

Kind of like, "let's trace this back to its source and see what else is there."

Another tip that many should find useful is to consider using the most searched for and most profitable
keyword search phrases in your particular market or niche market as actual anchor text next to your
backlink coupled with a strong call to action including a huge benefit for clicking there and a reason why.

Applying this one method described in this post will do wonders for your bottom line.

    Enjoy!

Yes i have made many posts in PR4/3 threads, and even started some. The trouble is a single thread page typically has around 350 links on a page, over 100 external and the rest internal so the link juice is diminished.

As i said, if thousands of signature links couldn't even push a site in to the top 10 for a 300 result term it's not what you would call a valuable link and it's definitely not worth posting just because of it.

The traffic benefit far outstrips what little SERP benefits there are.

I have my own method of getting backlinks, as I'm sure ssandecki, sweetfunny and Dan do, other than by creating quality content. If you think about it, you'd kind of have to for some sites if you provide SEO services, because not every site is going to be updated with new articles, blog posts, etc, although I'm sure any site could incorporate a blog. But anyway...

A lot of the times, you can evaluate a site and come up with an extremely good link building idea that's specific to the site. For example, someone posted here before asking how they could rank for 'free online games' (they own a flash game site). For this person's website specifically, I recommended that for each of the games, he put some code on there that people can copy and paste so they can have the same game on their site, too. However, within the code, he puts a link to his site with the anchor 'free online games'. Now every time someone embeds one of his games onto their site, he gets a free, one-way backlink that required minimal work on his part.

    Just something to think about.

    Exactly beeker, Rep given.

Every time the topic on building backlinks, or building Pagerank comes up nobody mentions the best ways but instead rattles off the old "article submission, forum signatures, link directories, social bookmarking" and so on list that's mediocre at best.

The best way is to give something away for free people can use on their sites.

Look at sites like Wordpress, phpBB, StatCounter and so on they have massive PR and millions of backlinks which accumulate around the clock while they sleep.

You don't need to put in years of development, just be creative for example Matt Inman's Quiz Widgets which generated close to a million backlinks in a matter of months. A novice coder can knock one of these together in an afternoon.

If you want a real tip on generating links on autopilot, make something that appeals to your niche that people can use on their sites. All you need to do is create an initial buzz, then it advertises itself because it's sitting on peoples sites linking back to you so other people can get it also.

TIP! I get some good backlinks by doing a Google blog search for the website I want to promote. For example, my website is about how to create free website traffic, I then Google the words, "Website Traffic Blogs". Google with then spit back "website traffic blogs" according to there strength, for the most part. Start browsing thru the blogs and you will find some nice ranking sites 3-5+ PR, Usually about 1/3 of these sites will allow a bona fide backlink to your site.
