Could anyone recommend a good UK host please

I am looking for a good, reliable UK host. I need php, mysql and mod_rewrite via htaccess.

I mostly use 1&1 in Germany (who I have to say are truly superb) but this website needs to geo-locate in the UK.

I have tried and abandoned:

Fasthost (no htaccess)
Webfusion (database access sooooooo slow)

Claranet is good.

Flump works great too.

Both meet your requirements, Flump is cheaper but Clara owns a lot of the internet infrastructure in the UK so you could argue they are faster and more reliable being closer to the top of the hierarchy and nearer the backbones.

 

I've been using supanames.com, they are pretty good as far as I can tell - I've never had any problems except that you have to request access to specific IP addresses for outbound port 80 requests :S

Very cheap and you get all the scripting, database, etc. on the most basic package!

Looked at claranet - extortionate!

Looked at Titan - looks like a potential candidate,

Looked at supanames and wow! So much for so little. Can anyome here confirm that a) php/mysql works OK b) you can use mod_rewrite via htaccess and c) that their hosted accounts geo-locate to the UK (I have known a few that say they are UK but host elsewhere - 1&1 being an example).

 

They normally show a current client list. Convert their domain to location with DP's free tool.

Sorry for getting your handle wrong in the long thread.

I have called them and confirmed they are hosted in the UK - the sales staff couldn't talk technical though. So I am now just looking for someone with direct experience to confirm:

a)php/mysql runs quickly
b) mod_rewrite via htaccess is allowed.

 

I can confirm that the php/mySQL work v. well - a friend is also using supanames with an htaccess URL rewrite... It works!
