Don't let them leave the house, have a phone, go online, look out the window, watch tv, have any social interaction. Put them in a cradle and let them sit in your basement till their 40 years old and then let them learn what life is on their 41st birthday. LOL Ultimately, kids will do whatever they want to despite what you've taught them. Telling them that it's bad won't help, EVERY ONE KNOWS ITS BAD!!!!! not like it's a conspiracy theory that 1 out of 30 people believe. Teens have their own mind, after 9 years old, no ones a robot anymore. If you don't want them to smoke don't fire up a lecture, that just builds tension and they'll do it just in spite of you. Your rules pertain to your house. so "don't smoke in my house..." is the nly way.
I would have to agree here, at the end of the day they are their own person, with minds of their own. You just have to believe that they will make the right choice when it comes to smoking.
Unfortunately, not all kids are going to be stupid enough ! lol They will find way out in bath-toilet for better practice and for time pass !
They will always do what they want…Advise them about the dangers of smoking, but I think the bigger deal you make it the more it will peak interest.
Till they are about 18 keep them on a short leash about smoking... teach them about how fu**ed up it is. Then let them make a choice... no matter how cool it looks or, what kick it gives them... at the end of the day its gonna mess up your lungs and screw up your breathing (not to mention cancer) Weird to see a serious topic from Cy
Trying to scare them with punishment or whatever isn't that effective. Take them to visit someone old and dieing because of cigarettes, that image will never leave their mind.
Tell them about the damages that this will have on their health & give the right example by not smoking!!
Most parents used this method, but I personally thinks that the curiosity in a kid's mind could do anything unexpected, there's no border to halt a kid from doing what they want.
Dont tell them it will kill them thats just stupid last thing you want to do is show them photos and tell them it will kill them!
There is no way your are going to stop some one. Only thing you can do is try to educate them about the negatives of smoking. And hope they will make a proper decision.
Mostly if they do smoke or do any other bad habit there going to find out themselves that its bad for them in the end when they see the negative health consequences such as bad circulation, bloody heart problems like im having.
A lady my wife works with has lung cancer. 6 weeks ago she started her chemo treatments, about 2 weeks later all her hair feel out. Even with an example of what smoking does to you, our grown kids will not stop smoking. My wife and I have a blended family and 2 of our grown kids smoke. Its sad to see them smoking, and here is this lady dying of cancer. My wife and I tell the kids they will be just like this other lady, but it does not bother them. Anyway, the cancer has spread into her lymph nodes and the doctors are telling her the outlook is not good. the tumor in her lung has shrunk, but the on in her lymph nodes is still the same size. If someone dying right in front of those kids does not make them stop smoking, nothing will. Peer pressure is the #1 cause of teenage smoking. If you can get it into your kids heads to just say no, then the fight has been won. I do not smoke because was strong enough to say no to my so called teen age friends. Now that I am 40 years old, I bet they wished they had never started. And I thank myself that I said "no" and did not start. Encourage your kids that they do not have to be like everyone else. Teach them to say "no" to drugs and smoking. Not giving into peer pressure is one of the hardest trials of the teen age years.
