There are people who care about Alexa???

It's a toolbar download that the average person online does not have.

The only people who use the toolbar are webmasters designers marketers who think the toolbar represents a realistic traffic number.

    :)

Alexa is definitely not accurate . . .as for the lack of data . . .I'm not sure.

Perhaps they update every 2 weeks or so (just guessing).

I have found it only seems to update more popular websites often, and the less popular ones only update occasionally.

Yup. No update here either since the 19th.
I don't even know why I keep looking. The data is crap anyway, as stated.

But nooooooooo. I always have to run and check, like some idiot puppy.
The only reason you ever go up, is so they can move you down further the next day.

One thing I have noticed is that MOST SITES are in a long-term downtrend. Now how can that be?

My traffic is at all-time highs, and my Alexa is at all-time lows. I am an idiot to keep looking. Better go look, better go look. What an idiot.

Most sites go down because new sites are documented each day, I believe.

Alexa only updates smaller sites occasionally. I had to wait over a month for my site to get updated again, and Alexa's figures were horribly inaccurate.

The point I mentioned is that all the sites have been affected this time. Even Google and Yahoo have no Alexa data after May 19. There must be something wrong.

See you could start a new AA group ...not Alcoholics Anon - but Alexa Anonymous.

You and all the Alexa addicts could start a 12 step program via a forum and hopefully ween each other from checking useless data....

Yea, I have a comment - You actually use alexa? Its unstable, system crashing, piece of junk spyware.

A few years ago alexa was some of the worst spyware you could get on your system. It ran all kinds of pop-ups and installed other programs like "whenusave." That stupid tool bar it installed was almost impossible to get rid of. By installing alexa, you are just begging to have your system crashed. By going to the alexa site and checking useless stats, you are promoting spyware.

Bah, dont waste your time with spyware or alexa.

Though the data is not accurate, but it's good to have a well known stat indicator to determine your popularity. Furthermore, what's there, that can server better than Alexa. Only Google PR and Alexa (so far that I know off) that can be used, especially when you need to sell your ad space or selling off your site :)

Server stats tell all anyone needs to know.

A good web analytics package will always be superior to 3rd party sites that show only a part of the reality.

Try compete.com and hitwise.com for more accurate data.

Sure it is, how do you think that alexa traffic page gets its sats?

People (aka victims) that have the alexa tool bar (spyware) installed on their computer visit certain pages. The spyware toolbar then reports back to alexa what pages people are visiting.

That is the way the alexa page keeps track of visited pages is by having this spyware tool bar installed on its victims computers.

The more traffic alexa reports = the more people have their spyware toolbar installed.

Its really sad that people use a system that compromises other peoples computers. By using the alexa traffic page you are promoting the usage of spyware.

alexa = spyware, plain and simple.

If my sites popularity is based off compromising someones computer, I do not need those types of stats. At the very least use quantcast or better yet, use google analytics.

"The point I mentioned is that all the sites have been affected this time. Even Google and Yahoo have no Alexa data after May 19. There must be something wrong." - No Change, still May 19

". . . ween each other from checking useless data." - Ha-ha-ha. Absolutely.

"Always a good idea to pay attention to inaccurate data . . ." - Ha-ha-ha. Absolutely.

It really is a shame that people check Alexa rank second, right after they check Google PR. People crave data, even if it is bad data. Alexa has a big reputation, and even though it is not good, people look anyway, just because it is talked about so much. Too bad.

I'm not even sure how they collect their data, but they are way off with my stats.

Thanks for the refs.. will visit the page soon..

Just to add on more to my earlier post. Even if we have our own stats some customer/advertiser just can't trust that, they still prefer a 3rd party evaluation..

    cheers,
