This is why I SUCK at SEO

So here I am my fellow DPers, about 3 years since I first found this forum. I have had some mild successes with Adsense and online revenue (worked at it full-time for about 2 years) but am now down to a small fraction of what I used to make.

I know, I know. This is supposed to be about why I suck at SEO, not Adsense, but in my case the two are intertwined like cookies and milk.

Anyway, a few things NOT to do:

    DON'T LOSE FOCUS!!!
Looking back, I started developing new sites in new niches way too early. I should have stuck with my original idea for a lot longer. I recently reviewed my Adsense stats from my first year to find that my original site was pulling in around $700 a month after 4 months. As soon as I started to branch off that revenue plunged, and it is now down to around $60 a month.

Why? Because I completely stopped working on SEO for this site. Had I kept going? Who knows, but I imagine I'd be ranking nicely still for my targetted keywords.

    DON'T BE A LAZY S.O.B!
This is common sense for most of you but for some of us, well, we struggle with the daily grind. Persistent effort is what will get you over the top, not a flurry of effort for a few weeks and then coasting.

I hate err HATE link building but if I'd been more persistent at it over the last three years for a single site.... cha-ching. Learn from my mistakes!

Those are the two main reasons I suck at SEO... I lost focus and after a while I wasn't willing to put in the time and effort (partially because I was spreading myself too thin so it was hard to get going and stay going).

I'm re-dedicating myself and am going to take my own advice for the next year by focusing on a single site and hitting it hard.

I look forward to making a post here at DP in about a year stating why I RULE at SEO. :)

    I hear ya!
If only we know what we did years ago, imagine!
Laziness is a big issue, not to mention motivation issue.
Lot of factors at hand that affect us.
Strong will power will help us indeed.

It's hard to get rich quick, but easy to get rich slow by doing a little bit of the right thing everyday. Don't overwhelm yourself. Focus on the things that work and make sure you do some of it every day and you'll be successful.
