A great success at the organizing of the games will certainly boost their confidence and hopefully allow China to be more involved in the world arena. Currently its stance of non interference especially in rogue states like Myanmar is causing paralysis in UN efforts.

i agree with you, chinese indeed are crossing their limits......first they overtook U.S. in polluting the world, now they are building massive arms and weapons that will again trigger an arms race in the region.....they are devastating Tibet cause......they are a real threat to whole world

What limits? Whose limits? China arms budget is 1/10 that of USA. The Pentagon uses China as an excuse to raise spending but even arms experts in Pentagon admit that for the size of China and given that it borders some of the most power countries, their expenditure is consistent with a defensive strategy. You can read Newsweek and other sources to verify.

I agree. If things will go smoothly, China's image will somehow become "better" - however, we cannot discount the fact that they still have issues concerning Tibet.

They've been preparing very well to be able to make it safe for all this year but I don't believe they'll be 100% succesful. I'm against the Olympics as well, by the way.

Nothing will be 100% smooth, but as long as they are prepared and ironed out the glitches, I see no problem that it will be successful.

BTW why are you against the Olympics? Just curious.

While the Olympics are being presented as a symbol of "peace and brotherhood", it's also being presented by a country which is politically far from these two concepts, China. Under their governance they're systematically raping the rights and freedom of millions of people still (East Turkestan, Tibet..).

Lets separate sports from politics, politics has been linked to everything. Lets have sports for the sake of sports. For once, just leave politics aside. The way I am seeing it, politics are linked to humanitarian aid and everything in between and it brings no good to anyone party.

So far ,everything to do with this years olympics has been a complete and utter shambles. i.e. athletes dropping out, torch relay canceled.
I think there is just too much hanging over China for it to be as successful as say Greece was.

Where are the complete shambles? Thought I see some issues here and there, the preparations for the Olympics seemed to be smooth. Athletes dropping out? What is the percentage of athletes dropping out as compared to Greece? Maybe you can enlighten us?

You definitely have the right to disagree, but I for one is against the politicizing of everything on earth.
