This is big news for affiliates and resellers, especially in New York. Hopefully this isn't something other states will follow. New York charging affiliate marketers and etailers from out of state sales tax. Overstock.com just dropped 3400 affiliates from New York after this ruling was passed. I had read that Amazon will be collecting the tax but is taking the matter to court.
I saw this and I think it's really lousy. And it's not clear. So overstocks.com dropped a bunch of NY affiliates. But what happens when another affiliate sells into NYS. Sounds like they still need to collect the tax. Very unclear.
Yeah, I hope others take note of this. Affiliates and the marketers should be pretty worried about this.
