I have been a member of this forum for a few months now and can safely say its a great resource for many many things. Unfortunately I seem to feel bullied into not answering posts due to the power of the reputation system, long term members of this forum seem to pass out red rep for anything they consider to be (dare i say it) not in there interest. Well my idea of a forum is to pass on informative posts and help when possible and you are not going to agree with everyone on the forum. But these so called big posters which i have no doubt are probably aged between 14 - 20 years old and have nothing better to do then simply sit online with the computer mummy and daddy bought them and dish the red to anyone and everyone. This is all well and good but does in my mind restrict me from posting as I may get red repped and banned for x amount of weeks. Surely this should not be the case, I have seen announcements posted in the wrong forums and NOT moved, did they get a red rep I bet they didnt, I have seen personal attacks on individuals on these forums and because this person does nothing else but post they can splash out the dirt and know they cannot possibly be banned due to red rep as they have that much. I know the reputation system when used correctly can be a good thing but all I see here is that it gets abused, anonymous bad reps, wow, lets go on a red repp campaign and see how many people we can get banned. At least make it so the reputation system lets you know who is repping you so you can either thank that person or ask the reason why. whilst its anonymous its open to anyone just red repping the newbies just for the sake of it. And particularly in the Directories area, if you don't agree with the majority script owners you simply get red repped for mentioning or trying to promote another script. No Doubt by posting this I am opening myself for more red repp, hopefully the true forum users who use this great resource for information and learning will agree with me on this one, and maybe spread the loving counter acting the red repp I am almost 100% going to recieve for this post. I don't completely agree that the members with more reputation don't get banned. I have seen many members with multiple reputation bars getting banned on DP. Don't worry too much about the red reps. Just keep doing good work and you will get a lot more green than red reps.
My gripe is mainly directed at the Directories area of this forum, It obvious that they is a huge following of the phpld directory within the Directories Area, and over the past months you mention any other script other then phpld or even try to help someone on another script other then phpld and you get I mainly post in the Directories area and am not for one minute suggesting the full forum is using the rep system like this. thanks aubenrey
At times I feel the red reps do tend to be autocratic in nature. No chance to explain or rectify an error - you just get it Bang... hope moderators give opportunity / at least give members a chance. Thx G
Dont get me wrong, if I have made a mistake, or have been abusive, then I deserve a red repp, my problem with it all is that its anonymous. If you are going to red repp for whatever reason at least have the guts to add your name. Then at least you can ask why and if warranted change the way you answer posts or give advice. I don't think he or she is arguing on that point, its more on the bully mentality of some areas of this forum. My advice to aubenrey is to ignore them, I bet most of them wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life.
You are right there on the money. There are quite a few "premature senior greenies" in this forum. Maybe they deserved all the greens, maybe they didnt. Just dont care. You are who you are, be that way. Dont give a **** (censored because of the presence of 12 years old in the forum) about that. Honestly speaking i personally dont care whether I get banned or not if I say the right thing in my way, (which can be the wrong way too in general I suppose). You are who you are, no one or thing should change it and specially them bullies of DP, whoever they are they are listening right now... Dont mind the reds or the infractions, its not the end of the world. Remember, most of the mods are always helpful and are really nice. They wont judge you or me or them on their reputation (at least that's what I hope) but what they did/said in the thread/post. So move on!! Life is bigger than REPS or Infractions for that matter. Just say what you want to, try to be logical and that way you will see you will automatically respect the rules here.... the rules are very simple after all.
@godofchaos I hear what you are saying but I do find myself rewording my posts in an effort not to be read the wrong way and not directed to a specific area. I know I should just say what I mean but I am a newbie with very few posts and to be truthful do not feel I can stand up to the big posters on these forums as they will use the dreaded red to shut me up eventually. Rep doesn't have anything to do with getting banned. As long as it's above 10 you have the same restrictions as everyone else. Infractions get you banned. Honestly, who really cares about it? You just sound like your whining about it rather than making posts which would actually deserve rep.
The directories forum is full of little idiots that always give me rep. I've spoke to Buffalo about it before. I wish the rep system showed who left you the rep. So many kids here are scared to sign their reps through fear of getting it back themselves.
And even worse kids begin making posts and bitching to moderators about it, oblivious to them that rep means nothing.
So do I, you could find out who give red with anonymous messages like. If I'm shameless I don't know what these people who shove phpld down peoples throats are. Mind you I never feel the need to give them red.
