From what I understand if the company is a brick and motor company meaning it is a business that owns a building you have to pay taxes. That pretty much means everything on the web should be reported but many fail to. Correct me if I am wrong on this. Ebooks can be taxed because the writer more then likely is running a home based business or what should be considered on.

No tax to be paid here in China as Adsense income is considered earned from overseas. If it was taxed I would have probably registered the Adsense account under our offshore company name.

I just submitted my tax info to google and got this:

    Thank you

"Thank you for submitting your tax information! The tax hold on your account has been removed.

Please be aware that if you checked the "subject to backup withholding" box on the W-9 or indicated a non-zero withholding % on the W-8 BEN, Google is required to withhold up to 30% from payments made to you under the Google AdSense Online Program Agreement for U.S. income tax purposes. You may also need to pay additional taxes on these payments.

Otherwise, Google is not required to withhold taxes from payments made to you under the Google AdSense Online Program Agreement for U.S. income tax purposes. However, you may still need to pay taxes on these payments.

Please also note that the tax information collection interface and any tax-related information provided by Google is not intended as and should not be construed as legal, tax, or investment advice. We encourage you to take a few moments to review our Payment Guide, which lists the additional steps you need to complete before you are eligible to receive payments. If you prefer a video presentation of this information, please watch our Introduction to Payments Demo, also located in our Help Center."

For individuals, only if you are subject to backup withholding do you have to pay a 28% fee.

If you're earning money by/for yourself - whether online or offline - you should be registered as self employed with the HMRC. You need to do this within the first 3 months of setting up.

By law, you're required to pay National Insurance contributions (there are different classes here - you may be exempt if your yearly earnings are below £2.5k approx.) and tax on any earnings above £5.2k (approx.). The tax rate from £5.2k to £29.9k (approx.) is 20% and above £30k (approx.) is 40%.

The tax is collected in the form of a self-assessment at the end of the financial year. The bonus of this is you can offset a lot of your expenses, reducing your taxable income (for example, if you had an income of £20k with no expenses, your tax would be £4k. However, if you earnt £20k but had £15k expenses, your would only be taxed on £5k, meaning you tax would be £1k).

If you need any more information, drop me a PM.

    Cheers

    Dan

Being in US, we always have to pay tax on everything. Most of the companies I've worked with online ask for some way to be able to report your earnings to the IRS (be it the SSN or Company Tax ID number)...
