Don't sell the site ... got a golden myself and let me say, smartest dog with personality galore.

To help with your site ...

neverblue has a friggen awesome campaign for pet lovers. it's a screensaver that's a dog licking your screen clean. This will be a big hit with this site. I didn't see a golden in the creatives but the guys at NB have no problems designing specific ads to taylor your site. They've also got a Frontline flea / tick preventer that pays on an email submit .. easy money.

There are several other offers that I think could work for your site from my other affiliates but that's my #1 above. Let me know if you want suggestions for others

About the adsense ... less is more. You have 2 problems with your earnings using the adsense ads you have showing. When you have 3 blocks on a page you get 3x the impressions which makes for a very low CTR. Because of this over a long period of time, you got smart priced. This means that you are getting terrible revenue per click.

The 2nd thing that losing 2 adsense blocks will do is force the higher paying ads to show. Gg will always show top dollar if it has the choice. So 1 block showing 2-4 ads will give you your best chance to earn. An example of why this will help you is that if someone happens to click an ad but it's the 10th one down the chain ... you get 1c / click instead of 15c / click.

    Good luck .... dogs rule!!!!

One thing which I noticed in all the answers here is that they kept asking you to monetize the ads in some fashion or the other which I THINK you might be trying without those suggestions. When one doesn't earn money with adsense and even if the monetization fails than you need to look for some other alternatives to earn money..

Because you have huge traffic and because people in your forum do not prefer clicking on ads than why have ads? Why not remove ads and let them feel much better. They would be more comfortable this way right?

Now as you want to make some money so why not sell signature links? You are the admin so you must be having huge no. of posts. Sell around 5 signature links and you can make great money to pay your hosting bills.

One more -- why not sell sticky posts? But remember, please sell genuine sticky posts which some some useful content in them. 2 Sticky posts in every section can bring in good money. Real good money.

May be people would say my suggestions aren't ethical but I still think that if you preserve the quality factor than you can sell signature links and sticky posts.

I suggested such things as it is already clear that people in your forum "somehow" do not want to click on ads. May be they are too intelligent.

So if they like content and NOT ads then give them content and make some money..

You do not need to sell this forum. You really have gone far with this so why sell now? Try these alternatives and I am sure you will be pleased.

Also try image links in signature. More attractive and more money.

I recently started a new forum www.theSenorita.com/forums and want to run some contests to publicize it. If you try my methods and you like any of them I would love some financial help from you.

monetizing your ads and waiting for people to click on them is like again asking your destiny to drive your luck. But as your destiny isn't with you than why not you yourself drive your destiny!!

that was a short booster :)

I'm a newbie, so I can't offer experienced advice like some of these other members (great stuff by the way!)

I figure most of your users aren't webmasters, they are dog lovers.
So many of them may not even know that clicking on adds that interest them is helping to support the forum.

Maybe a short sticky that explains this, but also encourages them only to click on adds that interest them.

How about revenue sharing? you first post says that you are willing to split the profits 50/50. how about offering this to your users?
Maybe that could turn a bunch of non clickers into clicking maniacs :)

I don't know what they are like, but Tribal Fusion won't even accept sites unless they have stats as good as yours. maybe worth a look?

this is what I am trying to state. Users in this forum aren't comfortable clicking on ads so you cannot try other ad alternatives and let time run. You need to try something else. I hope I am making my point clear

I doubled my CTR using an adsense alternative .
    How ?
Adsense allows just 3 blocks . I used another one that allowed me to have 8 blocks and my results have been awesome .

having 8 blocks on a site one next to each other will force me to leave the site. Too many ads is very very distracting

you could try changing the Titles of your ad units to make them stand out a bit more.

maby make them White for example or another colour that stands out, as black does not stand out.

    also change the colors alot.

    good luck.

I did a benchmark using Google Analytics and my Bounce Rate is around 24% , on an average most sites have it at around 44% ( source: Google Analytics ) .

First of all it looks like you are not getting the traffic you think you are.

Second of all try making the adsense links blue underlined

Don't sell your website, it's a goldmine. You just don't know it yet.

Your forum could do a lot better with adsense, but I would go a different route. Maybe you should only use it as a supplement:

    a) Placing two large rectangles (background color = orange, corners = rounded) where your current leaderboard is.
    b) Removing the small horizontal link unit that you have right below "golder retriever forum" text. Try the big horizontal link unit with 4 ads and center it either below the navigation bar or below the "donation goal" section.

Let this be shown across all the forum, not just front page and for christ sake, include your registered members.

This is for the adsense part, but your niche is pet lovers. This means your visitors love to see their pets happy. Therefor they will do and buy things that will make their dogs happy. And they will do that over and over again. This is where you need to ask yourself, how can I help them and their pets?

What you need is a mailing list, a sign up form. If you're using adsense you are sending your visitors to another business, but if you have a mailing list you can sell to your customers over and over again. Because simply, they want to buy! They are a hungry crowd. As an incentive to sign-up you offer them a bonus and then with your autoresponder you provide your visitors with helpful and real value content. First for FREE, then you start selling and mix up your emails with free and buy. Help your customers and they will love you. They will buy from you.

There is just so much information, it simply can't be squeezed into one post. I would recommend you to invest $67 into this ebook.

It's not my product, nor am I affiliated with it. What it will do is teach you exactly how you need to monetize your list. Too many fail to realize that money is inside the list. On average a user needs to visit a website 7 times BEFORE he buys anything from that website. That is a lot of effort you invested and if you are sending these buyers away from you, that is a lot of energy wasted. Because once these visitors become buyers, they will be ten times easier to sell to, than your average visitor. That is why you need their emails. You would want to contact them over and over, offering real value.

Thanks again guys, lot of good ideas.

BTW. I've changed the top two large adsense blocks to one banner ad and since then, over 3000 pageviews and not a one single click. I think I will switch it back. Approx. 0.04% CTR is better than 0 :)

Click sharing seems like a good idea. Hm. How does it work exactly. Do you think it can work?
