Last update was finished and i saw stable PR on all the datacentres.

In addition to PR update on the established websites, this time, PR has included even the new domains, those which were launched only 20 - 30 days back.

http://www.steelers12thman.com/ received PR 6 thanks to handful or crappy backlinks (no offense to people linking to me). Not that we needed more evidence of something wacky going on...

That's amazing. No offense Jim, honestly, but THAT site is a PR6??? Do you realize ESPN.com is a PR8. Just two more PR points and you'll be ranked even with one of the largest, most well funded, well connected and "linked to" sports web sites in the entire world.

    PR is officially useless.

Going from PR 0 - PR 5 or even PR 6 is easy.

Going from PR 5 or 6 to PR 8 is really difficult. I dont think there are many who have reached PR 8 unless its a heavily linked to site.

I don't doubt anything you're saying. But the context of you're statement would lead me to believe that any PR less than 7 is now pretty much useless.

Anything that's too easy to acquire loses value.

Very happy with this update. Saw 8 of my websites i started last Nov, finally get PageRanks. 1 of them a PR4 (not much but i had been looking at a blank Pagerank icon in my google toolbar for 5 months now..) :)

I was shocked to see my blog PR from 0 to PR5! I checked the backlinks and found no high PR sites linking to me except links from 4 of my PR 0 blog.

What happen? Is that backlinks no longer important to determine PR?

No offense taken. I know it's stupid for that site to be PR 6. PR is broken. However, ESPN may be a bad example since PR 8 is exponentially more difficult to achieve than PR 6. I was saying on another thread that I ahve a few other pR 6 sites. One has 18,000 or so backlinks including many from PR 5 and 6 pages. My new sports site has 49 weak backlinks...
That's waht it seems like

I have not gained/lost anything after that glitchy update. All my 20 odd sites are the same.

    Hi Jim,

Well I have a theory... It's weak and it's based on very little factual information and consists mostly of guesses. So it's a typical theory for me and for an internet forum...

First - this PR update is a LONG way from being finished. I think it's just getting started.

Second - I've done some research today on my own sites. The new sites, built in Jan 06 till now are seeing wild PR fluctuations. Are all going up. Google seems to be catching up with backlinks I've added to these sites and giving them WAY too much rep. Example - one site of mine is 53 days old. It has 8 backlinks and consists of only 4 pages. And one of those is just a sitemap page. None of those backlinks are from sites with a PR higher than 4. And yet my site, as of just a few hours ago, went from PR0 to PR4. I'm seeing a similiar pattern on all of my other new sites, plus I'm reading the same things here on the forum.

Third - So I did some research on my old sites. I found something rather disturbing when checking backlinks to sites I have that are at least one year old.... Some sites showed NO backlinks. None in google. Meanwhile those same sites were showing hundreds and in some cases thousands of backlinks in Yahoo and MSN. So there's gotta be something serious going on there.

Fourth - So what to make of it all? I think as older sites have their backlinks/PR updated we're going to see the newer sites being pushed back down. Probably way down. Which means things will be returning pretty much to normal. Or as normal as things get in the PR world.

Disclaimer: I've been taking prescription pain pills for the past two days so don't put too much stock in anything I type. :)

There are people who run after PR and there are people who dont care at ALL.

I have been working with many clients and their websites get a lot of traffic and they dont care for PR at all.

I will see value in a website from the content it has and the keywords it ranks for.

I short, the actual value of the counter on Site. (no. of visitors) and not alexa rank. though sites with alexa less than 20 K are really nice ones.

Are they old sites? None of my old site budged an inch. My tw new ones went from 0 to 6. Some internal pages on my old sites also went from 0 to 6, which is funny since they now have higher PR than the homepage (which is 5).

Maybe Google is considering only new backlinks on pr update. And we should always add backlins to remain with actual PR. I hope not.
