Hello, My flagship blog has grown pretty well and I am thinking of moving to a new domain name as the current one does not really fit it in any manner. I have a few questions - 1. Is it possible to transfer my feed subscribers to the new domain? 2. What do I do to maintain the Search engine rankings? a 301 re-direct for each blog post to the new should do the trick or is there more? 3. Is there a trick to eventually transfer the pagerank without building links from scratch to the new domain? 4. Lastly, can I do this successfully without hurting my traffic, subscribers and rankings? Thanks a lot Al
1. Is it possible to transfer my feed subscribers to the new domain? - The 301 redirects will take care of this. 2. What do I do to maintain the Search engine rankings? a 301 re-direct for each blog post to the new should do the trick or is there more? - You can setup the .htaccess file with one line of code to 301 redirect all URLs as long as only the domain name is changing and the URL structure beyond that stays the same. 3. Is there a trick to eventually transfer the pagerank without building links from scratch to the new domain? - The whole concept of 301 redirecting is to transfer over Pagerank and link value, it takes a little time but is transfered over. 4. Lastly, can I do this successfully without hurting my traffic, subscribers and rankings? - You will see a decrease in search results temporary, also Pagerank won't update until the next update or the following update.
