I'd have to be raking in a lot of money to consider paying that for a listing. Invest it elsewhere :)

You will get a strong backlink......
But the page i want to get listed has too many out bound links......
Thus i did not spend the cash!

I have heard bad things about using the Yahoo Directory. You would be better off buying links in loads of other directories instead or saving the money.

    Yeah go for it,
not only do you get links froms dir.yahoo.com, but yahoo.co.uk, yahoo.de, yahoo.sg etc.
my site also got picked up by dmoz and now has 5 links from there.
though not much trsffic from the directory itself, i have seen increases in serps to pay for the 300 bucks many times over.

It would be nice to have backlink from yahoo directory but 299 is way too much for that.

I have found Yahoo to be a rip off and a waste of time. Do not bother putting money in.

think of how much 299$ could do even on this forum towards generating one way backlinks.

With one or two exceptions, it seems that the Yahoo! directory is not viewed as worthwhile for links. What about direct traffic? Does anyone actually use the directory or is it just another inbound link?

I listed my site about 18 months ago in yahoo directory, paying the $299. I didn't renew the option after 12 months yet my site is still listed 6 months later despite the t&c's saying "..for each listing accepted into the Directory, there is a recurring annual fee of US$299 to maintain the listing in the Directory for the subsequent year". Whats other peoples experiences regarding their listing staying in the directory when they haven't renewed?

I would say yes. Just joining the brand yahoo, it would be, but there are many better things you can do with $299.. So I would say if you have lots of money, then yes.

Echoing others sentiments: if you got the money to spend, its as good as any other place to get listed. But if you are working on a limited budget, there are probably better choices.

if it is a company site, or site with a big investment go for it. its not only the search engines, you get few quality leads from it. plus when all your competitors are on it and when you are not there you are missing out something

once at my work place we submited one our b2c travel site to yahoo directory and it was well worth it

but if it is a personal site, small forum, or a website aiming at adsense money i dont think its worth $299 at all

Thanks for this thread. I had started the similar thread but no one answered my question yet. Due to many negative opinions here. I think it depends on amount of money that your site can make. You won't pay $299 to list your own personal blog which doesn't make any money unless you are so rich. I think Yahoo will not deliver both in traffics and PR boost, especially with some deep hierarchy category which hasn't been given any PR. However, if you mean some trust that your site will get so I think that's worth the money. In my opinion, you will get strong backlink even from PR0 page under Yahoo directory. $299 show some sign of your site quality. I don't think MFA site owner will spend $299 to have trust on their site absolutely, even they can make more than $299 a year from adsense.

For me, it still worth to give it a short.
