I can design, but I can't code!

Hey everyone, and I'm very serious about online business, but I can never get anywhere simply because of the fact that I SUCK AT CODING. I have an extensive knowledge in CSS and HTML, but the problem is, I don't know how to put it ALL together. It gets quite frustrating, because I can come up with some very nice designs, but then I'm stuck with a .PSD waiting to be coded. I don't have the kind of money to be paying coders upwards of $75+ per page. That's just a rip off.

But, what I'm really trying to ask is:
Is there a serious, actually useful website or service out there that offers free (or paid, I would be willing to invest) CSS/XHTML training? I mean hands-on, educational information that I really can use every day.

Yeah, I have read tons of tutorials, I don't want to read another one! Tutorials only teach you how to code the exact same template that the tutorial writer is coding. What fun is that? Wow, copy and paste this code, and not learn anything. I know most people like the easy way out, but I actually do want to learn.

Or hell, is there anyone out there that would be willing to teach me? In exchange I can design and code multiple sites for you to use free of charge. I am really eager and anxious to learn coding, and I can get the hang of things very fast.

Thank you to anyone who helps me out and contributes any actual useful information that I can use!

Lynda.com has some good tutorials. CSS ones are good. May I also suggest using FireBug plugin for FireFox. It is great when coding a template as it shows you in real time what happens when you change different attributes.

Now a days, there is no craze for designers,as its the world of CMS. Everyone needs the Admin backend now. So if you only do designs, then there is no admin panel. Thats the issue. SO i have left Designing now and only working on CMS.
    Hope,my words helped a bit..

Thanks for the resources Angelus. :)

Well, I plan to use my knowledge to create themes for WordPress, which is pretty much a CMS, lol. I enjoy designing a lot, and that's what I want to do with my life really. I want to be able to design, code, and set up blogs without it taking forever to earn up enough money to hire a coder, when they don't even code right half the time anyways. Really, all I want to be able to do is code templates that I design for WordPress.

I would code you a PSD for free into HTML/CSS, as i'm also limited with my efficeny in coding so I wouldn't require money. Send me the PSD and i'll have a go at it later. If you like it then maybe you could offer something, but i prefer to leave that up to yourself rather than demanding anything. Send me the PSD anyways via PM!!

W3SCHOOLS.COM!!! That is where I learned HTML, PHP, CSS, And everything I know about websites! it is free with free lessons, and tutorials and a huge list of examples. They teach everything! They have an awesome thing called TryIt... It lets you edit code and see what it does, just by clicking a button! It is so helpful... I would go there to learn anything,,,

crath, I added you on YIM. :) Thanks for your help.

I have used w3schools, but it's not the kind of learning that I am good with. I need hands-on, live support from a real person. Websites just don't understand some of the problems I come across..

Tips when you read tutorials is to not just copy and paste but actually read what everything does so that you can use it to create something of your own ;)

Well I know that. I know exactly how codes work and what codes to use, but I don't know how to put them all together. That's the only problem. I'm not a total beginner here.

Agree on that... it's a great website. Lynda is also a great one.

You should check them both out.

I'm like you - I can design, but I hate coding. I can change CSS, but not build it from scratch. I can even work with the PHP in WordPress themes a bit, but I'm no expert.

I happened to meet a guy who is a programmer who can't design. We make a good team.

Stick to your strengths. If you're a natural designer, unless you really love coding as well, I recommend you outsource it.

By the way, saying that $75/page is a rip-off is insulting to coders. Why should they spend hours working on code for peanuts? It's jolly hard work.

learn css/xhtml, don't get anyone to do it for you, trust me, if you wanna be able to earn a nice amount of money, you need both, regardless of how good you can design, and it can also help you determine coding limitations when you design.

Anyway Heres what I would recommend
"CSS for Designers - Lynda Learning", check Lynda.com, you can probably find it for downloads, google it, It really helped me a lot! I had read books and everything, but nothing really shows you how to code a practical template, until I watched the dvd, it helped me quite a bit in understanding how everything works, next best thing is w3schools.com, you don't need to learn a ton of html, just the basics I find is enough, since styling is gonna be purely css..

Hope that helps, def get that dvd, I sucked at coding, now I can actually manage tableless strict xhtml/css fairly well, I do need more practice, but now its much easier to interpret, and understand what I'm actually doing.
