    Hi

I have started a new website (forum)
And i just seen the services section which are offering 100's Directory Submission.
I also seen that many people are recommending these type of service
But what i think is - Is this still effective for SEO ?
Not only for getting backlinks but do we get quality backlinks ?
Also i am worried as google will think my site is spamming as i am having 1000's of backlink in just 5-6 days
So is this directory submission safe for me ?
My forum is currently ranking #1 in google for the keyword which i want to.
But i have very limited backlinks thats why i wanted to know that will this directory submissions help and if yes then will my websites quality (indexing pages faster and Improvement in SERP) will be increased in google ?

    Please Help me in this
    Thanks in advance !!

It's not an effective strategy over the long-term, but it is something you'll want to do early-on. If you want to use directory submissions, I strongly suggest you read How I Do Directory Submissions [link: websitepublisher.net] by Chris Beasley.

Yes. You should do directory submitting. This will definitely help. I've got an experience to go to the TOP with some medium-difficult keywords with only directories...
Do remember - no reciprocal links. The only way to make reciprocal links - some sort of cloaking, but you need to have special script for this.
BTW, you can easily find about 5-10K good open dirs....

Directories still have an effect on rankings. I suggest doing directories submissions but also find other links. Get industry specific links, competitive links, submit articles and press releases.

If you want to get only quality backlinks, your backlinks would look artificial. So it sometimes definitely pays to have backlinks from low PR sites too to make your backlink profile look natural. Moreover, the links would not be added immediately. The directory owners take about 1 to 3 weeks to publish your links, and Google may not index those links at once. So it never hurts going for directory submission. But also include few good paid directories in your profile to get the PR boost.

I agree that directory submissions are still the way to go. If you can afford $299 get listed in the Yahoo directory. It does help a bit :)

Directory submission won't harm your site. But it's definately not going to get you to rise through the ranks and optimise your SE results.

If you're going to submit, don't pay someone. Use it semi-automatically and take 15 mins out of your time to submitt to 100s of sites. http://www.digixmas.com

In my opinion directory submission is very useful and very effective it will rank your site high in search engines results and will give you a decent page rank.
but you should choose right keywords for your backlinks.

Directory Submissions is a nice thing, it not only helps you in getting enough backlinks but also helps you in SE rankings. Even article submission and guest posts on blogs will help you.
Besides Directory Submission requires right Keywords which you should use.

Directory submissions can be compared to putting wood on a camp fire. A quality relevant link would be like putting a huge oak log on the fire; which will make it burn for hours and burn hotter. A directory submission would be like a dry twig that will have little to no effect on the fire. Directories have way to many outbound links and the value is so diluted you'll see little to no results beyond getting crawled more.

Which is exactly why I said it's best done at the beginning. To borrow ssandecki's example, start the fire with whatever you use to start the fire (a match, lighter, magnifying glass directing the sun's rays, friction from rubbing sticks together, whatever) plus some kindle and tinder (the directory submissions), then sustain it with the large oak logs (quality relevant inbound links) to keep you warm at night.
