Could the page rank of sub page be higher than that of home page?

Is it possible that a sub page in a website has higher Page Rank than the home page itself?

Looking at the Google PR algo. I can say theoretically it is possible, practically has any one seen any such website?

It happened once before on my site but that was before the latest PR update in May. The difference was like the subpage is PR1 while the homepage is PR0. And yeah, I've seen it and until today, can't really get an explanation why it is like this.

Yes, It is quite possible I have a website with the home page having a PR2 and an inner page having a PR3. After all PR of a page is decided on the number and power of back links it is having. I think the quantity and quality of the page content is also a factor in the PR allotment.

Yes, it is possible. But it have not happen to any of my site. I think it is as a result of sub page having more BL/traffic than the home page.

Possible theoretically and practically both. I tell you what, do an experiment, link any of your sub page 50-100 times more than home page from high PR websites and see result by yourself.

It is all about the inbound links. It is typical that we always link home page which is obvious and so normally we don't see any sub pages more popular than home page itself. But as others provided few samples you can see it by yourself.

Just curious what you are up to with this?

Sure it can be. If you get higher pr links to subpage it will defenately rank higher.

On my music hosting site (link in sig) about 10 of my inner pages are PR4 and have been before the recent PR change which saw my home page go from PR3 to PR4, so it is possible. I'm hoping some of them turn PR5 by the next update. :D

Yes, I've had sites with sub-pages higher than the index (not on sub-domains).

It happens quite easily when you have a home page that is not particularly interesting (thereby not drawing too many backlinks), but an inner page that is highly popular and draws tons of backlinks voluntarily.

I think this can happen as all you need to do is, build lots of backlinks for the subdomain and after some time, you will see its PR higher than the homepage.

Yes, it can happen. this is because it treats each and individual page as a unique one. So it is greated based on the content of each page and the link back as well.
