I have uploaded a sitemap.txt file to Google (before I knew about xml) with 129 links and then a sitemap.xml file 420 links about a month ago. Out of the 500 or so links, it still has only indexed 5! From what I've read here, it should only take a couple of weeks. Is that correct? What could be the problem?
I'm not the expert, but I assume that a sitemap file tells Google what pages are available on your site... useful if your pages are dynamically linked or linked through a javascript file (as mine are). But that doesn't answer why it is taking so long for Google to index the pages....
rebeltaz: You don't need to worry. Google will eventually index your pages. The reason why it's taking longer is hard to say. Where are you checking the sitemap status? In Google Webmaster Tools? Have you tried to do a "site:yourdomain.com"-search on Google? Google indexes my pages faster than it takes for them to update the status on Google Webmaster Tools. Three weeks ago I launched a website with alot of pages, it's a geographic directory with geographic locations all over the U.S. This is what Google Webmaster Tools says: Sitemap statistics: Total URLs: 3208 Indexed URLs: 1 Code (markup): This is my sitemap file: http://www.us-geographic.com/us-geographiccom.xml Code (markup): If I do a search on google to see which pages from my domain they've already indexed.. like this... (site:us-geographic.com OR site:www.us-geographic.com) ... I get the following result: Results 1 - 10 of about 7,980 from us-geographic.com OR www.us-geographic.com Code (markup): Check the Google Search here. Try and switch my domain with yours, and see if you have more indexed pages in the regular searchengine, then in your stats. Even if this isn't the case, my recommendation would be to just wait. While you're waiting, why dont you add the same sitemap file to Yahoo Site explorer? https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com Good luck!
Stockhola, If you're not already have an account at Google Webmaster Tools, I recommend you to get one. Sign up here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ Here is a brief explanation of Google Sitemaps: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html Why should one add a sitemap to Google, Yahoo and in other useful places? Because it gives them a better idea of which pages on your website that you think is important, and that you want them to index. Good luck!
If u submit more content at at once, then google will not crawl the page.while doing seo we need to do it as per the requirement of search engines.if ur page is not crawling just submit the inner page which is not crawled, to google.within 4 days ur page will be get indexed.
fyi...most sites get indexed within a week if you know what your doing, basically just get more links pointing to your site.
simply search site:domainname.com and it will show pages indexed by Google and you can see the cache status of pages
I face same problems last month my site good result and show in 1 page and now its jump to 7 page and google not index my site after 15may .Please healp my what i do?
