After 5 months (Origianl transaction date is 13 Dec) I won a 148$ chargeback through paypal on a digital item (download). I was surprised back then when I found the buyer opening chargeback case through his credit card company. at that time paypal put hold on my money and then reversed the transaction and they said If I need to go further I need to submit any documents that prove that I delivered the item and they will help me take my money back from the credit card company. For my luck (or my intelligence ) I use download logger in every billing system I use to know if a client downloaded something or not yet and it records time/date and IP and resolves the ISP as well and I believe that my logs matched the logs from his paypal account and that turned the case in my favor. On the other hand that particular client had opened a ticket with me for an issue with his install and I helped him so I knew his site and with whois query I was able to extract his info and Pass everything to paypal team and I really forgot about the whole case until I found an email from them today saying they restored the money from the credit card company and that it will be in my balance within 7 days. I'm very happy that I managed to prove myself as a legit seller rather than getting the money back though
When they find out the payment is not made by stolen Credit Card , the result is definitely like this
Yup I second that. I even forgot about the whole thing thining it has gone with the wind but wow I got the money back. As an update. I have just found the money back in my account already now minus 20$ (chargeback settlement fees for 2 transactions) I survived 128$ out of the 148$ and I'm so damn happy
wow.. thats really amazing mate. congrats. Seems finally paypal started favoring sellers. I have lost hundreds of $$ with those kind of fraud transactions and chargebacks.
Sorry, but why are you getting charged $20 for a fraudulent chargeback? btw, congrats on getting your money. I believe it's the first time I've heard of it for a digital product.
I think the logs I provided left no doubt that I'm right and the buyer was trying to rip me off. This sum is not the big deal. I'm happy because I was accused of being a thief then proven myself innocent. I even forgot about the whole thing few months back. I hope you understand what I mean. I think it is the fees for them (paypal) having to deal with the credit card company. I don't think it is good for them to do so because they got the usual transaction fees in the first place to deliver the money to me from the buyer and now they take extra money to restore it for me from the buyer but I can say that yesterday I had nothing then today I got 128$ so it's all good
Surely the credit card company who initiated the (fraudulent) chargeback should get that money from the person who did the fraudulent chargeback and not you, the innocent victim of an attempted fraud?!
That is a part of their message. We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully disputed chargeback case #PP-417-991-xxx. The buyer's card issuer has decided in your favor. It is PayPal's standard practice to dispute wrongful chargebacks. One of the benefits of using PayPal is that our team of chargeback specialists will gather the necessary information from you and work with the credit card company until the chargeback is resolved. We appreciate your prompt response to our request for information about this transaction. Code (markup): I do agree with you but I think paypal has another point of view. I think 20$ are the fees for their team of chargeback specialists. I still believe that the detailed logs I had were the reason for setting this in my favor.
Without a doubt! You would have been out of pocket were in not for those so congrats again. I still think it unfair you should be charged $20 for an attempted fraud by another party. I believe they should be charged the $20. You could be quite correct however, that the fee is one imposed by Paypal for them fighting the chargeback for you.
This is the first time I have heard of a good thing from PayPal customer care. They are normally a difficult people to solve even straight forward cases.Happy for you.
