Are page rank2/3 links worth anything?

    Hi,
My first question on this site after registering...hope it makes sense

I think that I have optimised my site for my keywords so I think now I need to build my pagerank cos at the mo I'm only at a weak page rank 2 :p

Obviously trying to increase this so I am wondering, will getting links from page rank 2/3 help me at all or is page rank 4 the minimum I should aim for? (I have a feeling that I have read this somewhere but need to confirm)

pr1 pr2 inbond links do help, as will all inbound links (the the higher the pr usually the better) :) and pr1 / 2 links can often be the pr3 to pr5 links of a few months time.

Also have a look through the forums and you will find several free directory sites that are well worth taking the time to become listed at.

Just getting enough postings on these forums (10+) and then adding links in your signature can significantly assist in this effort. ;)

The PR isn't as necessary as the anchor text linking to you- so remember that when posting or doing link exchanges my friend.

the PR4 thing is one of those widely distributed bits of misinformation.

PR4 or higher only show in a link: search but that does NOT mean that lower than PR4 links don't count. they do count.

Ah some useful bits of information, wrapping up some questions that I had.
Is it possible to check your lower link sites because I would be interested in creating a benchmark because the next few days is promote promote promote :D

    A link counts.

The higher the PR the better it is but you cannot ignore the power of numbers. If you get a lot of low PR links then they will collectively give your PR a boost.

Also keep in mind that PR is somewhat a "current" value that can easily grow if the site prospers. This in turn will raise the value of the link(s) pointing to you.

I would recommend that instead of concentrating on PR you concentrate of getting anchor text links to your pages. the anchor text will help you more with your rankings, and of course each link will increase your PR by some amount, When you think of links primarily in terms of the value of anchor text you will understand better that links from PR2 site can be very helpful.

Basically all of the above are correct. PR is primarily for public consumption and bragging rights, not truly how well any one site will do in the SERPs; where backlinks are.

Do not pay so much attention to the PR of sites linking to you. Focus on KW text anchored links to your site from primarily related/relevant sites. That is what will drive your SERP placement. Your PR will come automatically.

I somtimes like to answer with a question or a story...hope you don't mind....

If someone would give me 2 or three dollars, i would not feel the same as if they gave me a $100, never the less it would help paying the bills.

The problem is...my bills are getting highr each month...and so will the wey Google measurs incoming links PR.

As time goes by, low PR links will meen less and less as the search for quality relevan results continues.

Hope that answered your question, in case it did not..let me put it this way...

    They help....for now.

So to sum up, you need links from PR page, the higher the better, you need anchor text optimized for your keyword, that would increase the SERP placement. The last one, make sure the site linking back to you are related to what your site is about, otherwise it will be considered as paid links.

As rivers said a link is a link is a link is a link.

IMO the PR of a link is primarily valuable as an indication that the page the link is from has been indexed. I see no indications that between two identical links the one with the higher PR will have greater ranking powrer.

Even links which do not show PR on the tool bar may still be passing linking power as they are often from indexed pages which Google has indexed but has not gotten around to showing on the PR bar.

The high the page rank with your banklink, the higher the chance of getting high page rank. So use more high page rank websites.
