97 $ in 5 month is not too good but it depends on your site visitors if you have more visitors you will earn more
you're 3 dollars close to getting a check. but anyway, from what i read from wikipedia, most of the users can even get only to that amount in years time, so its a good start. just make sure you get the best content and generate links and seo stuff. What you need to focus first is the content. And do the rest of them later. You can outsource these services too. a wild guess is that you don't have much traffic yet. just try out my suggestions and i think you can do better in the next 5 months hehe.
If you want to earn more, then try to get more traffic. Traffic = $$$ Also, Try to increase your CTR. Optimize your ads placements.
now you know that adsense makes you moey. if you want more, then keep doing more of what you are doing. more sites, more content, different niche, working on increasing traffic will increase your income

Try another niche... Something more competitive will get more $$$ but you will have to be good to get the traffic...
They more you work and do experiments , you will learn more things and earnings will start increasing automatically .
