Adding a forum to established site increase rankings?

Hi guys, just wondering if i was to add a forum to an already established site, but not market the forum and leave it to be indexed and reach target users through search engines and traffic that already comes to the site, would this increase my rankings?

I was thinking of using the forum to post threads and increase my rankings to my overall site, then in the future when traffic increases to advertise my forum more when there is enough content on there.

    What do you think?

    Will.

Yeah, sounds like a good idea.

I think adding forum will surely help to increase traffic from search engines.

forum is a good idea but leaving it wont do good as you need lots of posts and members to come again and again and post and make you forum + website more valuable

How do you come to that conclusion, so your saying adding a forum to a website would not help search engine positions in anyway possible?

It will help but you will need to really work on the forums to get the necessary posts and it is not easy to start a forum from scratch.

The starting is always the toughest part, for a start you need need to hire a few forum poster to kick off the forum.

Be sure you can make the forum successful. When I come across a site selling products that has a user forum, it always looks weak if the forum is nearly empty.

Forum & blog know to be the most SEO-friendly parts of a website. If you build enough in-bounds links, have a number of threads, make posts daily, Search Engines will be visiting your forum daily or hourly. Variety of subjects gives variety of key-words, SEs value words in the forum thread titles similarly to the webpage titles.

It sure would do. It will not only increase your SERP ranking (if done right) also will increase your traffic.

A forum by itself will not, a successful forum will definitely help PR and ranking especially if your forum is of the scale and size of DP. You can forget about your existing business and run the forum full time instead :)
