Do people use red rep any more?

before the reputatino system was changed I used to see quite a few user who had rather fetching strings of red blobs by their names.

Now I just don't see it anymore.

This is a shame. it means that muppets are not named and shamed any more.

At the time i thought that making it cost a rep to give a red rep was a bad idea. i still do.

Though I still give out the occasional red rep, I don't give out as many as I used do. I guess some people never give them out now.

I have seen a few scammers in various threads still with just one green blob. In the good old days the community would have given its opinion on the user.

    Now that doesn't happen.

Do YOU give out red rep any more?

I think this rule needs to be rethought.

    Cheers

Nah, the rule works fine but you're right about the community not delivering the red people deserve. It would be a great way to keep the scammers out of BST if everyone dropped some red on them but in days gone by it was okay for people to start a rep-bomb thread whereas today, it's not.

there are no point to give red anymore..

even though you manage to get someone to red, he can go back to green easily. all he need is start a thread in GC saying "OMFG i am red" and then a bunch of "we are all buddy" muppet will give him green without trying to find out if he deserve to be red

It's not even about scammers really, there are good procedures in place to deal with that side of things really.

The main problem I think is that recently more and more misinformation is being bandied about on the forum and that is what concerns me.

I personally think rep is a great way for community to moderate itself. Before the infraction system was in place, members basically said to other members, your conduct violates community standards.

It means that your posts suck, and you need to review the rules.

Yes we still use red rep (personally I use it all the time). One reason you probably don't see as many new members going into the red is because we've gotten pretty good at banning them quickly for several types of things.

An no, the rule won't likely change. It's there to discourage abuse of the system.
