    Hi Guys,

I just mentioned this in another thread but thought it warranted starting its own thread to find out your opinions on it

the other night I was searching GoDaddy for domain names for my new site i am starting.

I found 2 or 4 really good names, HOWEVER the next day when I went in to purchase them (or the one I thought was the best) they were all gone

GoDaddy had purchased them and now owned them themselves.

So I'm just letting you know BEWARE that if you are going to just do some homework and look around at available domain names but aren't planning to purchase then and there, Do NOT do so on GoDaddy, they will purchase the name from under you. Their software must record what you did a search for and then be purchased if they think you come up with something good

It shocked the heck out of me they would do that

    Whats your thoughts?

    No,
Never search any such over any registrars or never do any smart whois check or never look smartly over browser to check the availability, unless you are registering them right there !

While I have never had this issue, I have heard others that have had this happen. Not sure it's godaddy doing it (as they are opposed to domain sitters) or something else.

    Hello Friends,
Logic here from always sunny Palm Springs, California.
Happy Friday to you my friends

Ok this has happened to us as well. What we noticed was that 5 day later the names are available again in some cases.

They buy them here and test them out and let them go again.

Here is what we were doing.
We were buying all of the city names for California with the word weather on the ending.

We had alredy bought all of the Southern California cities with weather on the ending.

We were doing searches then building a document to send over to purchasing to buy the names, it took a couple a days to get the list searched out and bought. There were 618 +/- names on the document.

In that time some of the names got bought and when we did a search about 1.5 weeks later the names were available again and we were able to get all 16 but 1 was not released. We had to buy it from the parked page for the posted offer price.

    Ok this was our experiance,
    Logic...

Don't use registrars to search for available DNs unless you are prepared to check out right away. Go to who is sites like domaintools.com

Godaddy and Bob Parsons are against this practice and are adament that they do not do this. Their queries may be being intercepted at the registry.
Who is the registrant in the WHOIS and who is the registrar?

Exactly what I was going to say and ask. Some folks just find it conveniently
easier to believe there's a conspiracy without actual proof to verify their claim
    or so.

I don't think whois.net does anything with info cause i used to search them all the time and never noticed an immediate snap up of domains.

I've never heard of godaddy doing this. I know that network solutions does.

Plus all the good domains are being registered very quickly these days.

I've had something similar happen to me before but I usually do my searching with NameCheap
    and another company registered it.

I try and stay away from Godaddy as much as possible.

    Hello Logic,:)

This is case, when I registered my favorite domain.
I searched over 2 registrars and found available.
But then after hours when I went to register it,I found nothing !
OMG,some other one registered it !
Repent repent........But gain after 2/3 weeks when I accidentally(fortunately;)) searched with other names & I found it available.
Damn I registered it there even I never thought to register on that day !
This was my first case about such and I got my lesson there !
Again after some repeated incidents,I cam to know about domain twisting lo !

    But what,
If there are inner tracking goodies in my computer or from other sites that I tabbed at this times !
I think not to search in anyway. As the market is heavily saturated,I decided not to search anymore before getting ready to register them but sometimes can n’t stop.

DomainTools are not up to date with names that are regged. Say if you reg a name with a registrar & a few hours later check whois with DomainTools it says it's available when it's not as you've just regged it a few hours ago.
