I used a dash in my H1 tag. I heard that the search engines think of it a question mark. How detrimental is it to the keyword phrase in the h1 tag or my SEO goals in general?
I personally never heard anything bad about it and dont see how it could possibly be bad at all. But its not very important to use <h1> tags at all. Though it does help some.
when you make love unprotected you can get a girl pregnant. when you use h1 tag with dashes, you can get the SE spider pregnant hehe
That doesn't make any sense at all, like what aaron says. Using dashes won't make search engines think your spamming, although I don't see why someone would do that - it - just - won't - make - any - difference.
I would think search engines knew a dash was a dash, and that dashes are important in titles. For example, "eyes2005 - Lost the Plot?" I believe worrying about dashes in H1 tags is insignificant, I wouldn't worry. Search engines despite what they throw up in their results sometimes, are prettty clever. However dashes in titles are used heavily in articles that are targetting keywords because you can't always create a meaningful title with the keywords in without using dashes, but I can't see there being any penalty. Using Dashes in Titles - Penalising Webmasters? I believe the answer is nah. He he. Pete
I have used dashes before. As far as I know, it does not cause any problem at all. The pages of mine that use dashes rank well.
I think used dash is not bad effect at all. How could it get your site penalized? Used - in all places look are the same, just separate the words. IF used Dash in H1 tag is bad so used them in Title or url might look bad too
