They'll both give you the same result in the search engines. However, the dashes will make it far less likely that you'll find your server's error logs clogged with "false positives" due to people mistaking underscores for blank spaces in your URLs.

Hey my friend, no doubt that word-word is more SEO friendly than word_word for one simply reason at the reach of your hand. Whenever you write a post in Blogspot (Google), the title appears word-word, and if google is deciding to write it like that why shouldn't we do the same :)
    ;)

    Good luck!!

I think that everythingisplanned had a good example there. Look at the difference between these two search results at Google Tours_Travel vs Tours-Travel.

The one with the _ has a church site in the number one position. The one with the - has a travel site at number one.

I would say it would be best to optimize for the one that people are searching for more often/converts better.

    I always use url-like-this.html
    I think it's the best.

There is no difference between the two and the search engines won't rank them differently. Google did a couple years ago, but they finally "got with the times" if you know what I mean.

I totally agree - this is much easier for readers and potential referrals to remember and another poster also made an important point that it doesn't require the shift ket. Definitely my preference. Thanks for the insight.
