I've just published a new article called "Google PageRank and How to Get It" in my InfoPool.

I would appreciate anyone who wants to proof read it and get back to me with corrections or suggestions.

Also if anyone wants to publish it feel free as long as you include the author's credits.

    Hi Bob, excellent article!!
Just one remark: when you search for backlinks in google ("link:http://www.yourURL.com"), the result doesn't include all the backlinks, as it's just a sample. Don't you think the search www.yourURL.com -inurl:yourURL.com is more accurate?
    Cheers,
    Johann

Looks good Compar! Might just suggest though that it could benefit from a small section on 'how to get it' e.g. links from high PR pages with fewer links. Currently its more of an introduction/analysis of PR.

Well that is the obvious implication of the chart and other information presented, but I'll consider making the point in summary form. Thanks

I've never thought of using that search before. You would think it would separate the true IBL link from internal backlinks. However I tried it on a site that has 143 internal pages so I would assume that that means 142 internal links to the home page. And for which Google reports 380 backlinks.

Then I did your search and got a list of 137 pages.

So you would guess that if you added 137 and 142 you would duplicate the backlink search number, but of course you do not. You come up 101 links short?????

Excuse me. You want to say, that I need about 19 links from PR7 sites to get PR7 for my page if there are not more than 50 links on that PR7 pages?

Perhaps more than 142 internal links?

143 if they are all indexed. I've checked several sites and strangely enough the results are coherent only for the sites with a low volume of backlinks.
I am a bit confused, as the search www.yourURL.com -inurl:yourURL.com should give reliable resuts..

Or about 101 links from a PR6 site, if I understand the chart correctly.

Than something should be written about how old these links ahould be! I can show you interesting Example:

    www.bdbd.ru
    PR4
Backlinks - 4,970 (+4,920 of them are new!)

And believe me there are about
    ------------------------------
    -7 links from PR6 pages:www.computerra.ru, gameguru.ru, www.compulenta.ru, www.ibusiness.ru, www.compulenta.ru/dk, www.computerra.ru/softerra, www.cio-world.ru,
    - about 100 links from PR5 pages
    - and all other are PR4 and lower links.

So it should look like more PR7 then PR4

All we need to remember about the age of the links!

    Best Regards,
    Paul

Are you saying an old link is not as good as a new link?

If so, I don't think that is correct.

Just the opposite. When it's a new link Google doesn't count it at once. It takes time to transfer backlinks to PR value

Yes that is what the chart indicates. 19 links from any PR will give the receipient page the same PR based on the assumptions in the chart. It you change the number of links per page to 10 the number of backlinks required drops to 4. If you raise the links per page to 80 then you need then you need 30 backlinks etc.

I haven't looked at the chart myself, but how can that be?

    Given the following:
    • 15% dampening effect
    • PageRank is split equally between all links
    • 10 links per page
    • each page linking to you has the same PageRank

My math tells me you would need an average of 11.75 links to achieve the same PageRank as the linking pages.

Your example (with 4 links or 30 links) shows that a page passes on more than twice the PageRank it actually has. I think there would be some problems with that.

What if the page only has one link, then the page they link to has a higher PageRank than the base page?

Go read the article Shawn. The answer to your question is that we assume a page is passing 85% of it medain value for a PR range, but all a page has to receive is the minimum or threshold value to move to a PR level.

So take the PR 6 example. The median value of the PR6 range is 75,000, but the entry level threshold is 27,000 or approximately 1/3. Hence you don't need 12 backlinks you only need 4 to attain entry threshold level.

Read the article --- all will be revealed!

Why would it be any part of it? There is absolutley no evidence for that as far as I'm concerned. Remember a page can obtain a lot of PR just from its internal links. They are all from the same domain.

Okay, that was going to be my next question... if we are talking about high/low/average, rather than "actual".
