Looking for simple web layout inspiration!

I'm a big fan of simplicity when it comes to design. I love light and simple web layouts whenever possible.

I'm starting a new project, a mini-net, and am looking for inspiration for the web design.

It will be Web 2.0 social directory-ish.

    Some websites I like are,

    http://www.alltop.com

    http://www.basecamphq.com

    http://www.mozilla.com

    http://www.uxmag.com

I will give +rep for good design recommendations (and honest efforts).

    TIA for the inspirations!

Plain white, with nice easy to read collumns like a newspaper but larger font and a nice easy one, nice big headers and blue links.

alltop.com - OK, that's pretty simple and basic. Easy for a visitor to quickly find what interests them.

basecamphq.com - this site is a mess IMO. It doesn't guide the visitor to the important content.

mozilla.com - few link choices and lots of whitespace make it easy on the eyes.

uxmag.com - way too busy for my taste.

IMO, you need to decide what is the important content on your site and how you want to guide the new visitor to finding it (and/or using the site). I think it is hard to offer design examples without knowing much about the site.

I'll rep people up for responses tomorrow. I'm out of rep juice right now. ;)

@ Bern - Ok, so where are the suggestions cowboy!?!?

@ Magestry, same for you. Where are the suggestions?

@ themtkid, Dell definitely is not Web 2.0 but the others are decent. Thanks.

PS, I can't tell you too much about the site right now, other than it is a web 2.0 (or 3.0) social directory sorta thing.

All I can tell you is: KISS, use whitespace, guide the eye.

I agree with Bernard on the KISS rule (Keep It Simple, Stupid). There are a ton of sites out there to showcase good, clean and semantically proper websites. Here are a few to get you started:

    • beautifully-webdesign.net/
    • coolsitecollection.com/
    • thedesignedtree.com/
    • webcreme.com/

A ton more links available here:
    • forwebdesigners.com/inspiration/

Sorry I can't make proper links yet. You'll have to do the copy/paste thing.

What about Google.com? When you come to think of it, most of the major sites use these kind of layouts.
