If people didn't blow through the installation process, microsoft wouldn't have added this. This is to protect "illiterate" computer users and can be disabled easily if he wishes. This is actually good because I remember having to format my windows xp machine every 6-8 months because of spyware that installed in the background without me knowing it. Now on vista, if i install spyware, it'll promt me first and it's my own fault for installing it. Running a spyware search program on my old windows xp machine would result in usually 80-100 results. I have been running vista for over a year now and just for kicks i ran a spyware search program and it found 1 result.

I run vista smoothly with all setting default on not a core2duo or core2quad but a Pentium D with a geforce 6600gt, 2gb of ram. The problem with your friends machine is that he went crazy and probably installed every widget there is and has bottom right icons stretching all the way to the "start" menu. To many programs running in the background will hinder performance, windows xp or vista.

ok so you dislike the security feature in the first post and now you say it should be secure?

Another bull$#@^ post disliking an OS without a decent reason.

I'm just trying to say that if we continue using ready developed codes and don't understand what exactly happens there step by step , we will let machines rule the world one day ! Look , everything automated there you just click install and go ... User friendly ? We just let microsoft rule our money, our internet our ideas .
I also against software monopoly , they buying ideas and automating it !

The idea of when you buy an os is that it should work without you having to sort things step by step. It should be user friendly.

Microsoft rules your internet and your ideas? you must be on a different internet that me.

Maybe. When you serfing the net via xp or vista you never know where your data flows even if you try control it you can't do it for 100%. Windows controls it for you, hackers with a few good programs celebrating .

you dont know that with any OS.. regradless of OS, you have to be careful what information you send or where you access. Blame that on Internet.

all OS's hackable though, apple, windows, linux, BSD all the same

I use windows xp for the reason that it satisfies my job requirement and not just because I love Bill Gates. Windows XP will continue to dominate the OS arena till a credible and capable competitor comes to the scene (though Vista will continue to remain a loser) :)

I'm hearing that for designers like myself, Mac is best to be used because it can handle multiple programs better than windows, but I try using a Mac at best buy and it confuses and frustrates me =/

Used to be a big fan of Windows, but now I brought a Mac and it just beats Windows by about 10X, it is truly the best type of PC out there!

windows is reliable and looks nice. it has great applications that can be built using visual studio plus superb internet explorer. however it doesn't seem like it's going to be dominant forever, taking into account Bill Gates stepping down from Microsoft.
