You missed 1 really good way to use SU: Create a bunch of new free websites and add a bit of unique content to each of them with links going to your main site you're advertising. Then stumble all your free websites, review them and watch the traffic flow in. SU won't pick up your stumbling of your other websites as spam. And SU traffic really isn't targetted. You did give some insightful stuff though.
and all this will go right down to the drain as SU traffic will not convert to anything. i have not heard of anyone so far who found SU traffic to be useful

Either I don't understand how to use StumbleUpon or the traffic doesn't last. I have used it on a few sites and have seen my traffic double for one day, then go back to normal levels the next.
My traffic on StumbleUpon has risen for 3 or 4 days then it falls back, it does this continually too. It could be due to not favoriting new websites.
I used SU paid program...I spent $100 just to see how it works...I got the traffic...but when I stopped the traffic came to the normal level (thank to Google the traffic I get now is the same as I had before when I tried SU - and that's a stable traffic). And it's not targeted at all...only by countries, states and cities...which doesn't say too much...
I can see where paid StumbleUpon traffic may be good (jump starting a viral campaign, promoting a new trailer for a movie, etc), but I'm not so sure how it would help with other sites.
Stumble upon works okay for list building if you give away a free report etc, I have never had any sales from it even when showing pages that converted around 2% with other traffic. Its also quite hard to really target traffic and their categories are really broad.
