Mac vs. PC

I want some good views here. I currently use a PC at work (dell precision 690) but I'm looking to get a new laptop for home work. Looking to get a dell or mac. I have heard if you play games go with the pc, well i don't so thats out of the question. I have also heard if you make videos/take a lot of pics go mac, i don't. I mostly do general stuff, simple business applications like word excel and use thunderbird for email. I also do some web design. Nothing to hard core or real intensive.

Cost is also not a factor.

So which should I go with?

Pros and cons of each please.

    Personal experiences?

Plus what do you guys use? Why?

A mac is far superior. Do not go in for the mac book air but. As it does not have an optical drive and not as good as the mac book pro (go in for it, worth every penny).

I love my mac book pro.

    I also have a sony viao TZ and a lenovo 3000 Q150.

But i love my mac. My lenovo equals the mac in performance but fails in terms of looks.

For your needs I think either one is appropriate. Have you tried Apple at all? might want to give it a go and see if you like it before buying, and see if you like it more than windows.

    I love the commercials........

but the truth is that Macs are overpriced and overrated for the money.

You can buy 3 Dells for the cost of one mac. So what if you have to throw the Dell out every three (3) years? Donate it to a school, and get a hefty tax writeoff!

I'd rather buy Dells, and toss 'em every 3-4 years.

I have used both mac's and pc's but I've been using pc's much longer so I guess
I'm more comfortable using a pc than I am using a mac.

I know mac's are not affected by all of those viruses that pc's are affected by,
but other than that I think it's difficult to say which one is better.

Macs are great, but if you are just using it for basic stuff, then a cheaper laptop would do the trick. Just make sure its got enough grunt to operate the OS & whatever else you want to put on there. I've been seeing some cheap end laptops that are barely able to run the pre-installed version of Vista.

I only own a windows based laptop (HP Pavillion) however I do own a iMac so im not sure if the same applies to macbooks but I prefer my laptop for every day use, but the iMac wins hands down when it comes to getting work done (graphics / web design / essays.) I just get into a more work focused / inspired state of mind when using the iMac, with its sexy looks and sleek o/s. Takes a bit of getting used to none the less. If you have never used a mac before take a trip to your local computer store and test one to see if its the one for you ;-)

If you want to play decent games, buy a PC.
If you want to browse internet, email, use Microsoft Office, music, movies, pictures, multimedia, then buy a Mac.

As cost is not a factor, you could get any Mac. I went for Macbook because Macbook Pro was too big for me (plus Macbook is already fast enough, I don't video edit so I don't need extra processing power). I would've bought a Macbook Air if it was out when I was looking, despite what many people say, it's still an extraordinary system.

The major drawback with a Mac is once you start using OSX, you'll find it hard to ever use Windows again.

I prefer Pc's They have more software and hardware available for them. But if I can afford it I would bot hesitate to buy a mac :)
