I've had the most success with SEO and long tail keywords. These keywords are either low search volume or medium search volume, but never high. You just leverage them and establish a website with 50 content articles targeting these keywords. You do more as you go. You then monetize your website with adsense and affiliate products. Your aim is to be authority in this niche.

I haven't had much luck with PPC. From what I have experienced is that if you are doing PPC for products that need a sale you are mostly breaking even. And sometimes those campaigns which were bringing you a profit can turn into losers basically overnight. The thing is that in between you are building an opt-in list from which you then turn a profit. I believe that PPC works best for lead offers. I am however mostly sticking with SEO.

*shrugs shoulders* I don't know, Jason. I guess, in a way I agree with you.

But a lot of the now big sites became big due to advertising. They started off small, with under $1,000, and took it slow.

If a webmaster wants to be big enough to at least consistently pay his rent and utilities, he is going to have to advertise. There is no other way around it.

If he won't advertise, he might as well let his domain expire. Unless, of course, he is satisfied with less money coming in.

But I understand where you are coming from.

I do not make $100/day yet. But I know what have to do to make more that just $100 per day :)

Recently I have a chance to touch several of the most successful affiliate marketers and guess what? My head is going to explode … I have thousands ideas…

There are both free and paid marketing methods you may use. May be someone is able to achieve $100 per day in a short run using only free techniques but this is a slim chance…

The big game starts when you are ready for PPC! Learn the secrets and start earning…

I know many guys making more than $1000 per day. I chatted with them. You have to chat too….

    Best Success!

It's hard to guess how long but it all depends on your work. On how you get traffic for your site

Wow, couldn't disagree more with this. Whatever happend to thinking things through before you do them?

I'm more than halfway there now, it's been a year. I have might already be there now, but I had 2 websites get taken down for trademark infringement. The domains had trademarked keywords in them. Unlucky for me, these 2 were my top 2 earners - I couldn't believe my horrible luck but got through it with a smile on my face.

Don't get me wrong here - spending money on advertising such as PPC is a very powerful way to expand your traffic.

However, (I'm making a big presumption here) I beleive your business model is based on selling products and most of what you push traffic to is sales pages. You probably sell eBooks and your sites have little useful content and are mainly sales page and mailing list based.

That's one business model where advertising is very essential - but for a blog or resource site it is less important.

I've built up 6 figure traffic and not spent a single dime on advertising. Look at a big blog like Engadget.com (the biggest U.S blog I think). They have never paid for advertising - sure they have a marketing department that networks within the indsutry - but the emphasis is on awesome content that attracts natural traffic.

I know from experience that you do not have to spend money on advertising to make a sizeable income. Traffic can come naturally and getting 6 figure traffic is acheivable for anyone if they work hard and concentrate on quality.

On ther other hand you can never make a single bit of decent content and just push affiliate offers by buying targeted advertising. There are different business models.

    Which site is this?

    How do you know?

They have over a half a million hits. They started out with advertising. Maybe they stopped after awhile and let word of mouth take over, like CraigsList, but getting that many hits, CONSISTENTLY, they advertised.

I don't care if it is a sales page, blog, message board, or whatever, if a webmaster wants a lot of consistent hits, he has to advertise. Period.

Well, I guess this is where we just simply have to agree to disagree.

I've got more sense to be revealing my money making sites on a public forum. Too many copycats, hackers and all that jazz.

Read Jason Calacanis' blog - he is very open about how Weblogsinc was run (before he sold it).

See what he is doing with Mahalo now.

I think probably we have abit of a misunderstanding - I agree you always have to advertise - but not all advertising costs money - at least not in the traditional sense.

A site like engadget did advertise - but it wasn't through something like PPC - it was through building contacts, networking in the media industry and social marketing - there is an indirect cost to this - but it is not advertising in the traditional sense - after all engadget did have a big angel investment and the money didn't just go on paying bloggers $3 a post when they started.

So yes you do have to advertise - but there's a lot more options than paid advertising where the investment is only time.

I'm a couple of weeks away from my website's one year anniversary. I'm also getting pretty close to $100 a day.

That would be a nice accomplishment.

I'm slowly working in that direction. Making money online is challenging and it takes time and quite bit of effort - at least for me.

It definitely takes time, effort, and patience.

I'm so glad I listened to the "make sure you enjoy your niche" advice.

Takes lots of time and effort. The key is innovation, however. I'm looking to reach 100 per day by the end of the year ;)

Well I didn't make that much per day regularly but yeah did make average $ 100 a day twice for some onsite helping advice to a friend for his sites. Regular earning is still a distant dream.

Gee, didn't see that one coming. :D

    ;) Riiiight.

That's how you know, because HE said so?

I take such info with a SMALL grain of salt.

I have lost count of the number of webmasters who told me they don't advertise, yet I have seen their ads.

Jesus, the egos on them. Like they are too good to advertise.

They may have done all that, but for the number of, CONSISTENT hits they are getting, engadget used paid advertising. Doing free methods, and promoting brings in just so many people.

And, on top of that, many don't come back, so a webmaster has to work extra hard to keep the high traffic at that level. Their high traffic tells me they are clearly advertising.

But, like I said, we can agree to disagree.

I hit that target within 5 months. Vision and goal setting are 2 critical factors. Other than that, I would say putting up a plan and follow through with it consistently. Actually, there are many good ebooks out there that teaches you strategies, blueprints etc to do it. Many people blame their failures, claiming the solutions do not work but actually, it is they themselves that do not.

If you are keen, you can always read my free report to understand how to start a business from ground zero and take it to 5-figure a month.
