You forgot one slight problem. Commercial developers are not really interested in developing programs for an open source OS where their program codes can be exploited and hacked at will. Not to mention the distribution of pirated software.

Yes, that is quite a problem. Luckily, there are many quality alternatives. And I was astonished when I heard that Adobe is going to launch Photoshop for linux, supported by the big G!

vista for personal use , in windows you can run many programs and updated for all needs

linux for web server but not for personal use because i need speed, features , in linux even a simple and good mp3 player is hard to find because i don't like most of them .

Linux is a complete revolution, Vista is a unrefined product that should have been simmered down a lot before so many releases

OK, this is incredible. My fellow European...:

Try searching on youtube: "100 applications running in Windows", "150 applications running in Mac" and "165 applications running on Ubuntu".

    Haha...Ubuntu has "awesome!" update-manager :)

I beg you pardon? Linux is at least 10x faster than Vista!

ROFLMAO! Amarok, Exaile, Rhytmbox, xMMS...You don't like them? Well, that's your problem ;) Anyway, by using WinE, I think you'd be able to run Winamp, WMP or whatever...

Ever heard of the update manager? or Repositories?

If you think Linux is slow, low features, small amount of games etc etc.

Try the new version of Ubuntu when it comes out in around a weeks time.

    And for Games > http://www.gaming4ubuntu.com http://www.getdeb.com http://www.happypenguin.org
Not to mention ID software port their FPS games (quake, doom, enemy territory)

Linux for me boots up and shutdown 10x faster than even XP.
    Faster at doing lets see....everything.

As for audio player - rhythmbox has good features and it's really fast, why exactly don't you like it?

Can you point me to a source of this, i would love it to be true :D

Got any proof to back that pretty big claim up?

i don't like XMMS, or Amarok , i use Audicious if i want a linux player , regarding Wine, is ok but needs a better compatibility, winamp in debian etch + wine is like an ancient player , no modern skin , no media library, why use winamp in linux if you can't have his features.

Ok , use Xmms or Audicious with Streamtuner but is not the same

Another example for some reason i can't use yahoo mail in debian .

Browsers are a pain , i use iceweasel in linux but still not firefox .

Speed , fast ... i mean for me, in windows let's say programs are at 1 click install, in linux if you are a beginner you lose precious time with compiling and other things .

Maybe more applications are running in linux but in windows run the best and most popular, updated programs for all needs , i was thinking to Dreamwever the only i like , i can't find something similar in linux with the same features.

This is why i said linux or the debian i use sometimes is poor for me as desktop experience

I find linux is slow, and I am on a 2.2ghz machine with 2gb of ram - Ubuntu + Fedora just can't do anything for me.

Personally, I prefer Vista because of the experience and security of know that you paid for it.With something free, even though it is linux - you don't get full security with what you get.

When I downloaded Fedora and Ubuntu they were exactly the same for me - just with different names, both had the same problems.

Untill Linux advances to such a point where microsoft buys out a distro of linux (try ubuntu) because it is starting to rival the market, I will stick with my Vista machine, even if it does constantly give me the BSOD.

    ^^

If that's the case, then why did, in last security testing (remind me, was it in Brasil) iMac failed first evening, Vista SP1 tomorrow, and Linux didn't fail at all?

When it comes to gaming, I'd choose Vista, installing games on Linux can be a whole load of bother.
For the office, I'd also have to choose Windows, if only to be compatabile with everyone else.

For anything else Linux has won me over. I run Centos 5 on some of my servers, I've never had to reboot in over 7 months now. I've had to reboot windows monthly at least. If I had the option of having Linux with hassle free installation of games and complete usability of the most widely used office documents then I'd use Linux for that to.

I agree with what many of you have said.

I'm currently looking into releasing a line of budget PCs that for the customer will come with Ubuntu installed ready to go.

My customers get a choice at the moment between the two microsoft OS's, XP or Vista. For OEM builders here in the UK and I expect all over the world still, XP is still readily available.

Vista has been a bit of a bum and quite frankly I hope windows 7 is going to be much better.

As for Linux, I'm going to do my best to push it as hard as I can as it deserves to be in the spotlight for a change and I think many people are starting to realise this.

Sounds interesting, putting Ubuntu out there would give people a better chance of finding what suits them the best.

haha, yeah. I wouldn't put granny's cooking secrets on vista. I agree 100%, Linux is far the best.

I think everyone would use Linux if they had serious computer knowledge. I mean, you know that all computer "experts", either hardware managers, code developers etc. are using linux. Windows is like...noob system :)

yeah, like I said once, the people's lack of brains is Microsoft's greatest asset. Just let the OS speak for it's self...
