SEO revenge?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by smokey99, Mar 23, 2006.

I am not a mean person, but am upset about getting my SEO work ripped off, by former partners (Web designers who know nothing about SEO)
We were 3 months into development and getting near the end, when they started pulling crap and knew I was going to get ripped off for my work.
So I bailed, But I left them with enough to put their site #1 on G for Mortgages in a specific province.
To show their intelligence and ethics, they have casino pop unders on a mortgage site.

I thought about submitting thier site to link farms, and bad neighbors.
And the "We submit to 100,000 sites for free" Schemes.

I was afraid that this might backfire and help them, (with my luck)

What do you think, should I do it?
I know its nasty, but they don't deserve to be on top.

Maybe just ranting, I don't know, help me decide.

    Thanks

How does this affect you? You bailed on them, right?

So why can't they do whatever the hell they want?

OK I get the general idea, I should suck it up.

It just sucks to see a couple of months work, go to a pair of scamsters.

The reason I bailed was they wanted to pay me less than we had agreed on, and I caught them pulling sneaky stuff, that showed they were out to screw me from the get go.

I knew that once they got all the SEO development work, they were going to screw me anyways. So I figured there was no way I was going to finish another month of work for nothing.

I won't make the mistake of doing work without a written agreement again.

I worked 2 months fulltime on this project with no pay (I have a mortgage and family, I can't afford to be working for nothing)

No doubt- that sucks BIG TIME! But I just meant, how does what they're doing now affect you?

Like you said, it's over, you learned a lesson and it's time to press forward. It doesn't seem like there's any benefit it getting "revenge" anyway.

People who do stuff like that usually get what they deserve in the long run. :D

I guess the only way it benefits me is to see that cheaters don't win.
and that they do get what is coming to them.

Before they met me, they were building a flash site, with no clue about seo.
And would likely never have shown any decent serps.

I built more than 60 pages of painstaking content, structure, nav, as well as many hours of explaining organic seo to them.

I just hate to see cheaters win.

Send them a dead fish in the mail and move on.

I've drafted a few 'you suck ass' type pages to shame people before but never published them as I tend to get over it once i've had a little vent writing about it.

You know the quality of your work and you also know they are bound in all their wisdom to fuck it up for themselves by changing your work, so just forget about it an move on.

I would create 20 or so mini sites or blogs then Optimize them to to the top for that keyword or keyphrase. Then If they want the top position they will have to pay whatever randsome you ask. Or you can be a real A-hole and sell them to competing companies.

I'll help you just to prove my skill and if there is some cash in it we can wack it up.

Hell I will do it myself. What is the keyword?

I say we do another DIGITALPOINT GOOGLE ATTACK :) PM the keyword or start your own thread about it with it in the title nicely and we can get started on that thread.

Thanks for the comments and ideas, but I would not get anyone else involved.
BTW INV, I haven't seen or heard of this DP Google attack, not that I would do it, but how does this work?

    Thanks again for the support.

He's probably referring to DP threads outranking some sites for their own keywords. An owner would start a thread asking how to make their site rank better, and that thread would outrank the site in question for it's own keywords. This wouldn't happen for any established site, unless that site was in the same industry as this one.

Hey Bro! I feel for ya. Nothing ticks me more than the feeling of being ripped off, or even seeing others ripped off. You obviously know what you are doing so this is what I would suggest. Go to the yellow pages online and find their compitition and do an even better site. Also, remember, not to put your heart into something before you get you cash!

    Good luck Smokey

That sux - It has happened to me before - Ahole clients - I just get rid of them fast. I dont even want them to pay me. Best steps to make sure you dont get ripped off. Invoice a 50% upfront fee to commence work. If they dont pay - they cant play. Real clients dont care about this. Then charge the balance 14 days after you complete the work. Has been working for me for the last 10 years :)

man that would hurt, but like fastamber said, if you want to compete against them go ahead and create 20 mini sites, throw some advertising on them and wait for the $ to start coming in, then take the money you earn from doing it as payback for your 2months of 'free' hard work. Revenge isn't worth it, but you've got 2 months expertise on mortgages so you may as well use it especially since they obviously never intended to pay you. Good luck.
