How many visitors you get to your directory each day?

Around 3,500 per day to Sootle, but I also have tools, a blog, and a weekly mailing list.

 

I was overwhelmed when we had tripled our unique visitors in the month just past. to see three uniques was great, but i was soon feeling down hearted again when my kids told me that they had logged on twice.

 

Well I know I logged in once - so if your kids logged in twice where were you?

Thanks to all you members who has put up this valuable suggestions....

So I want to make my directory not only for submitter but for normal visitors who want to find other informations other than website lists.

So If I plan to add some contents that includes News, Contents, Blogs, or any links to website (paid links) so that visitors will stay longer and maybe interested in what i have to offer other than directory itself, will it consider as site wide link..., Will Google penalize for me this?
I am really desperate for my directory to make myself an average income from it.

But don't build a directory for google, act like google don't excist... and everything wil be ok...

For directories,

www.alexa.com and www.compete.com seem, IMHO to be very accurate relative to other directories, so when folk quote figures, check them out there, its interesting

These 2 companies invest a lot in eliminating robot/spider traffic from their stats, mind you, their figures too involve a lot of estimation

One of the most accurate and mature things I've heard on a forum in a long time. Respect!

The niche operators know exactly how many humans visit their portals. Get a decent stats package that seperates all the data into little headed sections - it's so much better.

A custom built stats system is the best, but it's pricey. I have one and nothing beats it for accuracy.

You need to get one built for it to be 'good', as all these free stats tools aren't all that. I've heard AW stats is pretty good, webalizer isn't that good...

Some rave about HitWise, but I dunno about that one.

 

I m using statcounter. I think its pretty good too. Lots of analyzing tools to check my visitor. But I am not sure how to look which one are spiders or real traffic. Maybe statcounter shows the correct traffic.

My bid directory in my sig has about 750-800 visits/day - double the traffic since I bought it late March 08.

Whats your approach for gaining that daily traffic?

 

I have a very niche directory for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery Centers in Turkey called Estetik Merkezleri and average about 300 to 400 a day. Since this is a hobby site which pays for its own expenses, it is an OK number for me.

I really don't know what I do differently from the previous owner - in fact, I asked him how to promote the bid directory effectively. Then, I add other ways that I learn from other people

I simply do the following - bid for links on other bid directory, submit to free and paid directories (lots and lots of them), buy links on higher PR sites, lots of forum posting on major forums including DP, rent others' sig line (like yours ), blog posting, commenting on other blogs and blog communities, and social bookmarking.

Theres at least a couple of those that you mentioned that im not doing yet, i should give them a try, its quite impressive traffic that you get, to me anyway.
