The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is “a load of bollocks†and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network. This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to. Virgin Media has over 3.5 million customers in the UK and the real danger is that when they start applying this system to their network, all major internet providers around the globe will soon follow the trend. Because this is exactly what major ISP's have been wanting to do for years. This is not something to be swept under the rug. It needs to be addressed and put into the public lime light online. I have tried my best to set up a system to help people speak out against this threat over at www.phoenixfox.info/sayno I hope you will all support net neutrality and submit your entry to the petition as well as place a button or banner on your site to help spread the word.
THat is a bunch of balogne, they'll end up losing customers if they try to do that. Soon ALL networks will switch to the base price for all service plan
surprisingly some people who have already been reached have left including one of the people who responded to this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA5ZR_jxdXU oh and someone who agrees with me thanks
shouldnt that be illegal?? Is this a joke?? There will be ppl pissed enough to put a bullet in his head if he tries something like that, imo. And i dont mean me. He lacks common sense. Ppl have fought and started wars over less. And u are talking about pissing off millions here
Was it posted on april 1st?? Or is that person really insane? U want to kill freedom and we just end up viewing watever comes up faster. lol?
this is serious spread the word and do your bit by visiting www.phoenixfox.info/sayno there is a petition going there and some buttons and banners
Petition wont do any good. I am not on virgin but he does this and I bet some1 will do something about it. This neil person is really out of touch with reality.
ah but that is where you are wrong this petition is just the top of the iceberg once people know they will start switching from virgin on mass and this petition will be sent as another reminder to virgin that we will not be silenced and we will no go down without a fight, plus this petition gives the average Joe a way to speak out without having to do more than fill in a simple form that takes less than 1 min
I'm with them...the contract runs out in September though, think we will be switching cause their internet is pretty poor unless you can get cable (which our flat is one of about 30 in the whole city that can't :/)
brilliant looks like one more supporter for the cause would you mind writing a small piece about you stay with virgin for my site?
Me? I'm a pretty busy at the moment, don't think i'd have time to write a small article out of sheer generosity until I have some free time (which could be the end of May at this rate)
well thankies anyhow if you do find some time please get in contact me phoenix@phoenixfox.info but do find time to enter something on the petition
www.phoenixfox.info you can find the petition by clicking the ad on the header pic NOT the white banner ad
Sky has now also responded to us with a somewhat vague statement: “As video usage grows, it's natural that there will be a debate about the best way to invest in additional capacity. We want to be one of the UK's biggest and best ISPs so we'll always be guided by the desire to meet customers' needs for a high-quality internet experience." for the full picture visit the site at www.phoenixfox.info/sayno
I've been seeing a lot of "SAVE NET NEUTRALITY SPREAD THE WORD" lately. If a company were to restrict internet activities, they would definately lose business, so I don't think net neutrality is going anywhere.
that may be so but never before has a company so brutally said that they plan to limit off the internet and we can not afford to ignore this threat from virgin if virgin success then other isps will follow and this will spread world wide uncontrolled and it will be to late to to do anything about it by then
