rankings for small sites won't change but I read in TechCrunch that before they used to rank together with some site but now that site is way ahead of their site.. at least TechCrunch isn't just satisfied with the new change..
I have not really taken Alexa ranking seriously. I think it means nothing to most site owners anyway. But this is just me.
My site DOUBLED its rank (Halved)......went from over 1.8 million to 985,000. Most of my visitors never heard of an Alexa toolbar.
I'd say that for sure they are working with another toolbar companies. Search engine Watch talks about, Maybe ISP? Desktop widget companies and browser extensions? Amazon.com or IMDB.com tools? Cheers Lucio Dias Ribeiro
That's a huge change when you're that near the top... It sounds like everyone has experienced an increase but surely that means an equal number of sites have decreased?
it is good to note that the "ranking are now based on more sources of data" which gives more chances to get better ranking in alexa.
Consider two different sites: DP with its webmaster-based clientele (Lots of Toolbars) went from 301 down to 938 Yelp (www.yelp.com) went from 1,962 to 831 Yelp's clientele are MOSTLY non-geeks (non webmasters....LOL) and these folks DO NOT have Alexa toolbars installed on their computers. CONCLUSION: alexa toolbar, though having *some* influence on the rankings, are much less influential now than they were last week. Web geeks clicking on each other's sites, won't have much effect like before! BOTTOM LINE: having a good site, SEO-wise, and being PR3 (or higher) with high SERP in your key words or site category....will boost your Alexa ranking!
Till you have hope in yourself and are willing to work for success. I can say you that the "Game is never over till then". Keep working and you will get to where presently dream of.
Unfortunately, those of us whose sites ranked very well are finding our rankings dropping dramatically. I don't like the new Alexa system at all!
