When people say that SEO is dying...they simply mean that natural linking is becoming more of a key factor.

The onpage SEO doesn't mean as much as it once did...recip linking (doesn't count for as much)....so some say that SEO is dying.

SEO is not really dying, the move towards seeing how natural linking is taking place has greater and greater importance. So, if you can go out and create that natural linking yourself, without waiting for others sites to link to you because of great content....my opinion, it's still SEO.

It is and has always been a moving target. SEs change their rules all the time and if you can't keep up .... you're out! SEO will "stay alive" until SEs are alive. It will however get tougher as the SEs get smarter and smarter.

The key is finding what works and sticking with it. Experiment in places where you have not found what is working. Got a site that "IS" working? Don't <insert expletive of choice/language here>with it.

As long as people use search engine to find their informations, it won't. But search engine optimization today has many differents from 2004 since Google Florida updated. Too complex and too competitive in another try to filtered site with heavily optimized out of their serps. However, I found some old loopholes can use with some search engines, especially MSN, I saw some sites with

    1. Doorways pages + 301 redirect
    2. Cloaking
    3. All types of spammy.

Can be ranked well and I think this might be a ruin for itself. They should tuned up their algo before claimed the best.

I can show you a ton of websites that have age and link popularity but the information on them is as old as the sites. In this industry information changes quite often, so sites need to be updated often, yet a lot of these top sites have over 75% of their information that is 3 plus years or older.

I have to disagree with you that age is important for the searcher, age does not represent quality or up to date. I see a lot of new sites that should be number 1 because the internet is not like it was 2 years ago, people now realize content is king and they are building bigger and better sites than those that were created 5 or 6 years ago.

A lot of people once they reach the top of the SEs become complacent and very rarely add or make to many changes to their sites. New sites however make changes often and keep their data updated.

I guess I should really answer the thread question lol, yes Seo is dying but SEM is here for a while. Just my 2 cents.

SEO is not dying and the on-site optimization is still a big factor. I know that for a fact. One of my competitors is ranked #1 on google for a very competitve keyword and it mainly becuase on-site optimization ( only pr3 ) and very few link popularity.

Links alone will not do the job, there are lots of other factors involved and you have to put them all together if you want to rank high.

I can tell you personally that I have a semi competitve keyword ranked #3 on goole without a single link.

Changes coming thru mobile searches and such. Everything will be more personalized. You may rank for your term on my end, but not elsewhere. I believe that tracking anything will become virtually impossible, and that the sites that survive, will be the popular/quality ones.

SEO only dies when individual webmaster has NO control over factors that influence ranking. Not there yet, in the future...???
