Average PPC of recipe website ?

If anyone here runs a cooking recipe site in english I'd like to know what your average payout per click is. I run a recipe site in dutch and the average ad pays about 0.15$. The CTR is low because they are not well targeted. There are not enough cooking/recipe ads to go around in dutch i guess.

I would like to know if it would be worthwhile to translate all my recipes into english as they are all unique.

    Thanks in advance.

You will probably get a higher CPC on the basis that there would be more competition. There are not too many Dutch speakers, are there?

Nope ... there are about 27 million people that speak dutch ... compared to an estimated 700 million that speak english.

Anyone have some actual numbers for that type of site ? The translating will be quite a big job. I just want to make sure it's worth it before I begin.

I got an average of $0.15-0.16 too. I guess there is not much competition as well.

I own several recipe websites and depending on the time of the year, I'm looking from anywhere between .05 and 1.50 a click.

Converting your recipes to english may have a bad effect as well. Considering your site is currently 'niched' (recipes in Dutch), if you convert them to english you'll just be another un-niched recipe site.

    Just my $.02

Typically, the PPC are low on english sites as well, normally 0.15 depending on the time of year. From my experience you need to drive significant traffic to the site to make it worth while. Also if you have good traffic, mix up your PPC providers as some are more lucrative than others .. ie: adbrite can pay 1.50 per click or more ... but you need the traffic. For example if you look at recipezaar.com on one ad unit, they are pushing:

Pageviews per day : Over 440,000
Unique users per day : Over 96,000
Origin of traffic : United States
Avg cost per click (eCPC) : $1.86
Avg total clicks per month: 1,418

Not much considering the traffic they are pulling in.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for your input. I am not going to translate all my recipes. Working on other projects will be better use of my (limited) time.
