These tips are gold - I implemented them for 728x90 and 300x250 creatives and got similar results. Yay!

    Hey Critters - great stuff!

I used this tip on my travel site & doubled the CTR. Very nice.

The pictures I used had all different backgrounds & looked pretty ugly though, so I wrote a small app which will blend the edges of an image into the background. This really gives a professional look. I have posted it for free here (you can also see the link in my sig).

    Thanks again.

I really like how that looks also Pentium.

Though I have a question regarding that style of advertisement. How are you to accurately predict which units will be displayed? With that, how would you coordinate correct pictures with correct ads?

I have personally tested this and besides consolidating bg color, txt color and removing borders, images has been the most dramatic change ive made.

If you are not having success with the leaderboard, try it with the large rectangle. place a horiz image with 3-4 small thumbs to the left of the adsense. it has worked wonders for me.

Very well coded, did you send it to Google to confirm that mixing internal links with ad units in that way is OK with them? Blurring the boundaries to the extent you have may go in violation of the TOS? If you have not asked, prob best to email them with a link to your page asking if it is OK.

Critters, yes I asked Google to verify the site's compliance and was told that I am within the ToS. Not bad, huh?

it would have been difficult for them to say otherwise, since their focus would be more on those "click my ads" kind of thing on a offending site.

So has your CTR gone up, TCR?

I must be honest with you , I do not really know. WIth a small amount of traffic, it has been pretty high. As my traffic increases, it remains the same (give or take a few points), even though it is my understanding that as your traffic increases, the ctr would go down. It would be impossible to quadruple my ctr like Critter's ;)

Just did the same technique to my gopc.com site... let's hope the trend holds true.

THIS JUST IN... brand new clicks within 10 minutes after doing this change. Could be a coincidence, I don't know.. but it sure SOUNDS good!

    Thanks for the great hint!

your ads are cut off towards the end.
might need to look into it.
