I use XP now and love it. I've tried Vista in the past, but every time I use it, I encounter one error or another. It's really just a pain every time I use it. So I'm just sticking with XP until maybe Microsoft releases a newer OS.

I'm very happy with vista. It's much better than XP IMHO. This is coming from an experienced PC User.

Seriously? You have had no problems with the software? You must have extraordinary luck with yours.;)
What makes you like Vista so much better?

Its awesome. My XP was giving me so much sh*t lately and I decided to upgrade to Vista for the heck of it. Got a full legal version of Vista over eBay for $48 USD. Now it works perfectly. BTW my laptop is running Home Premium and its great. Nothing out of the norm. And surprisingly it has not ever frozen up on me once where I had to reboot the system.

I think it is unfair to say that Vista sucks. It contains some fundamental changes but by doing so, it loses support for legacy hardware driver and software. If you are running only updated software and hardware then Vista works great.

    Solution:

Use Vista as base OS (only for awesome memory management), then install Microsoft Virtual PC and setup a Virtual Windows XP environment. Vista allocates RAM differently than XP.

I have an HP DC7800 CMT with 4GB of RAM....and 3 Virtual Windows XP desktops installed.....no memory bottlenecks if all are running. I do all of my work within the Virtual XP desktop.

    Just a thought....

Nice post rchase14. A guy who works for Geeksquad was telling me about that and it sounded pretty awesome.

A virtual pc has a lot of overhead .. I don't think the difference in memory management between XP and Vista would make up for it ..

Memory management in Vista is different.

I actually setup two PCs at work, one as I described already, the other was with XP (same exact PC, but with XP). I could barely get one Virtual PC to run never mind 3.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, I use vista and I've not had a single problem yet, hell, it hasn't even crashed yet. I think some people are just picking faults for the sake of picking faults, to be honest.

We have 3 laptops in our house. The 2 XP machines are older with much less memory. We often do the same things on all the machines like hooking up to wireless networks or peripherals. I use the Vista machine and everything on the Vista laptop is more painful than the XP machines.

There is nothing seriously wrong with Vista but it has few real benefits to justify it's bloated footprint.

I am on Vista for almost a year now, and I think all the negative reviews are, well, BS. People don't want to upgrade their hardware and keep saying Vista is resource intensive which is unfair.

Maybe I'm lucky, but i'm not facing compatibility issues at all.
I am running a Vista Office 64 bit and all the software I use normally works fine including a rather old version of Corel Office Suite, but I need to say I don't have so much crap installed on this PC.
The only thing that doesn't work is my USB TV stick, but that's not Vista issue, it just Pinnacle that sux big time and cant make a decent driver (they never came out of beta).

I built a pc last month and installed vista business. Its been working great, no complaints.

Just need to tweak it a bit after installation, get rid of those naggy dialogs etc etc then you're good to go.
